Esme's POV
Unlike Eidrin, Grandus was taking this archery challenge really seriously.
Sunlight filtered into my eyes as I stayed hidden under the wide-branched tree. The best place for a hunt under the hot sun. I caught sight of the glint coming off Grandus's silver rings.
I smiled. He was coming for my catch again? This man always wanted to reap where he didn't sow.
He balanced his arrow on the bow with oddly good precision. His lips parted in concentration. He released the arrow, shooting the squirrel on the tree.
At that moment, I released my leg. The squirrel fell, hanging off the tree. Lifeless. I sprinted off, cackling.
"Get your own catch, pretty boy. There are more traps like that. Find something moving."
I heard his soft groan. He was amused. I was too. How long would he keep acting like archery was actually his favourite hobby? He could've chosen a lie that was easier to keep up.
