Chapter 29 - Beat down(2)

Vermur knelt on the ground. His earth skin turned to a sickening pale by the relentlessly blowing winds of this snowy terrain. His hands rested on his thighs. Devoid of energy as his back hunched with his head hung low and tilted to left.

In the snow below him, a crimson stain spread. Slowly yet deeply. Not because the blood that dripped from his mouth was too thick to be absorbed. But rather due to harsh rejection of the snow against the blood that seeped into it. Unwelcome. Unwanted. Yet it was an occurrence that couldn't be rejected by it. For the blood was simple liquid that flowed out of place and the snow... a forced compliant to the occurrence above.

Vermur's breaths were shallow. Yet released with force of a pant. And the weight of an unbearable struggle.

And speaking of struggle.

"RAWWWR!" The beast roared as its wide mouth barely opened as it did so. But... Vermur had no time to wonder upon that. For he was in a dire situation...

Inhale, Exhale, Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale.

Inhale.

"Rwaaar!"

Swoosh!

Stomp, stomp!

And he needed an equal miracle to save him from it.

And then he remembered, that person he called out to last time? Who was that person?

As the beast had then disappeared once more. Leaving the area of his gaze for the sake of elevating the element of surprise.

But Vermur did not care. For in this moment, this moment which could most likely be one his most embarrassing and insufferable one that he would ever remember.

And that disgusted him. In a time like this. He chuckled as his shoulders shook slight and thought. I wonder... what me calling that name had real effect on? My situation? Or greater misunderstanding of how everything works? He thought as he smiled slightly.

His dropped from the loss of any energy he'd saved to observe his opponent. Why? For safety? Yes, for a safety that he wanted to reassure was with him? But how? Through a blatant lie that swindled up in his mind faster than he could think, that he was intimidating? Yes, and strongly so. So much thay it felt like this lie he was gripping onto was more scarred of the situation a head of him even more than himself. And so the moment the monster disappeared again. It too fled. And so his inner energy fled.

He looked at the ground as he now breathed his mouth. With every cold inhale more excruciating than the last as they tore through his warm and weak throat.

Buh he could not swallow any saliva to warm and stop these effects. For his body was battered and so his energy and mind could function as one.

Stomp!

The familiar sound caused his body to twitch a little. But... not aout of fear. But... out of genuine surprise.

One could not blame him. For he was about to peacefully drifted away as his vision blurred and eyes fluttered. Though this was interrupted by that cursed sound.

Stomp!

The sound drew worry to him yet barely so.

Stomp!

The dound called him and mislead his care else where while giving way to his careless within.

Stomp!

The sound made him drop his gaurd as he struggled to force it back into him.

Stomp!

The sound made his skin crawl even now when he was si close to something...

Something... what was that something again. Ohhh, he couldn't remember. For word was at his finger tips and yet they hide right information despite ominously attentive glare to find it.

That something... or was it a word? Who cared really?

Stomp!

For the sound...

Stomp!

That made his broken heart race.

Stomp!

And his dead senses resurrect.

Stomp!

Drew closer as his death drew closer.

Stomp!

Death, yes, death that was the word he was looking for but at the sense of this realisation, karma decided to have some fun and... at the corner of his left eye. A shadow. It was huge. Very huge. Very long and...

"Rwaaaar!"

It drew closer with a deafening roar that was all but too familiar to Vermur's ears.

And yet in that moment, in his mind, his heart, in his body, in his very soul... all he could think to do... was call to that name again because maybe just maybe...

"He'll... answer my... call. So please Lord, help me..."

His eyes closed. His ears shut. His breathes seized. His body stiffened. And was covered by the shadow that approached. That lunged forward for him quite a while ago yet... it as if... they were.. slowed down.

And then he opened his eyes. Slowly. Hopefully and what what his eyes caught vision of brought joy to his broken being.

"Haaah, finally."

He sighed weakly as his eyes finally teared up and two singular tears from his eyes. Splashing and soaking into the cold snowy ground that accepted his grief more than his suffering.

[Hello Master Vermur.]

The systematic gentle masculine aired out in his head.

"Hello... voice."

"A-and where have you been?" He stuttered.

[....I have been asking a complete back ground check for any misconduct within me.]

[It is the first protocol taken with every rank you rise through and every time you complete a dream trial.]

[Analysis show that I am 100% functional.]

[And that I can now-]

"Wait voice, what... happened to that monster?"

[Look around Master Vermur.]

And he did as he then wipped the freezing painfully off his freezing eyes as gazed back at his right rib area. The faint pain that deeply yet steadily lingered there was gone and his ribs. They were restored.

"How?!"

[....]

He asked and the voice didn't respond. Had it gone away again? No, it had returned. And so it he started to panic. That voice was going to leave again. Alone. With that monster! He was trapped. Afraid. And yet he didn't cry. He just... lain down kn his back. Ready to accept the death that his cursedly durable body wouldn't die to do easily.

And so he closed eyes. Ready to sleep. And wait. For he had no more solutions. And because of that he was ready to meet his brutal end but...

His hand clutched his chest tightly. Unconsciously as he opened his eyes in shock to see something right before his eyes.

Something that unnaturally made him feel this way.

And it read with words that brought peace into his broken little heart.

And they were...
