The two proceeded along the corridor.
Their footsteps were light, rhythmic, and orderly.
Unohana Retsu did not immediately state what she wanted Suō Tsukasa to do. She simply led him toward the critical care area located deep within the first floor of the relief station.
As they ventured further inside, the scent of disinfectant in the air grew increasingly heavy.
In the buffer zone before the main gates of the critical care area, a stream of Reishi brushed past their bodies, performing a purification sweep.
Unohana took a clean white mask from a nearby wall cabinet and handed it to Suō.
Without a word, Suō took it and carefully put it on.
They entered the critical care area.
As the wooden doors to the emergency section were pushed open, a scent thick with the metallic tang of blood and heavy medicinal odors rushed toward them.
Unlike the tranquility of the second-floor clinic, this place was filled with suppressed groans of pain and the clattering sounds of urgent movement.
Sensing someone at the door, the staff looked up briefly before quickly burying their heads back into their respective life-saving tasks. They didn't even have a spare moment to offer a greeting.
The person with the highest spiritual pressure in the room was a male Shinigami with neat, slicked-back yellow hair and glasses perched on the bridge of his nose. He was focused on flipping through a clipboard in his hand, but upon noticing Unohana's arrival, he immediately stepped forward to meet her.
Coming to a halt, he straightened his glasses and reported with a calm expression.
"Captain Unohana, all the wounded in this batch have received emergency treatment."
"There are no major issues at the moment."
Having finished, he handed over the medical records clipboard.
"Thank you for your hard work, Iemura."
Unohana smiled as she took it and began flipping through the pages.
The speaker was Iemura Yasochika, the 3rd Seat of the Fourth Division and leader of the First Senior Relief Team.
His gaze naturally fell upon the unfamiliar Suō standing behind the captain. However, with the large number of personnel in the Fourth Division, the appearance of one or two new faces was perfectly normal.
Furthermore, the critical care area was not a place for idle pleasantries. His gaze only lingered on Suō for a fleeting second before returning to Captain Unohana, awaiting further instructions.
In Seireitei, there were not many people who wore glasses. Hearing the name Unohana used, Suō immediately recognized the man's identity and stood silently behind her.
After a moment.
Unohana casually flipped to the last page of the clipboard and handed it back to Iemura.
"Carry on with your work, Iemura."
"Suō, please follow me."
She led Suō to a bed located in the corner.
Lying on the bed was a Shinigami whose injuries were particularly severe. The thick bandages wrapped around his chest were mostly stained red by seeping blood. His Reiatsu fluctuations were incredibly weak, and every breath was heavy and labored.
His life signs were like a flickering candle in the wind.
"Captain Unohana."
A division member responsible for the patient saw the captain approaching and nervously made way.
"I will take over for this one. You go tend to the others."
"Yes, ma'am."
The division member bowed and withdrew as ordered.
"Suō, watch closely now."
"The essence of Kaido lies in guidance and resonance."
"The most fundamental step is to first control your own Reiatsu, lowering it to a level equal to the wounded."
Unohana placed her fingertips on the patient's Saketsu. A faint light of Kaido flowed continuously from her fingers into his body.
Her voice was as steady and clear as her movements; she was able to teach while performing high-difficulty treatment. Her mastery of Kaido was unfathomable.
Suō did not reply, immersing his entire mind in observation and spiritual perception.
Within his vision, Unohana's Reiatsu transformed into countless slender, agile threads of light. From her fingertips, these threads probed precisely into the patient's Saketsu. Like a master weaver, she began untangling and reconnecting the nearly collapsed spiritual nodes.
Generally speaking, a Shinigami's body is composed entirely of Reishi.
In theory, a Shinigami can reconstruct any part of a patient's anatomy through Kaido techniques. However, the difficulty is immense. While ordinary doctors deal with living flesh and bone, a Shinigami must contend with a complex manifestation of Reishi, deeply imbued with the individual's unique spiritual imprint.
Every injury represents a disruption of a unique Reishi structural model. The practitioner must not only master the universal laws of Reishi flow but also gain profound insight into the patient's distinct spiritual signature to perform a guided reconstruction using their own Reiatsu.
Unohana's method was masterful: she guided the patient's own fading Reiatsu to facilitate self-repair from within. Under her superb manipulation, the patient's pained and distorted expression gradually softened, and his breathing began to stabilize.
"How was that, Suō? Do you clearly understand?"
She withdrew her hand and turned to Suō. Those eyes, always filled with a gentle smile, now clearly reflected the focused silhouette of the youth.
"Yes."
Suō nodded decisively.
He had long since mastered the basic theories of Kaido; what he lacked previously was higher-level guidance. Now, he was full of confidence.
"Then, let us practice. I leave this member's Hakusui to you."
"Try to wake him up."
Unohana nodded slightly and stepped aside.
"Yes."
Suō did not hesitate and stepped forward. He knew this was an essential step. The patient's Saketsu had already been restored, so the difficulty of the operation had decreased significantly.
The Hakusui is the gathering place of the soul's essence and energy. Damage here was precisely why this division member had fallen into a deep coma and could not wake.
As long as he used his own Reiatsu to repair the Hakusui and replenish the patient's essence, he could wake the man.
Suō adjusted his Reiatsu, fine-tuning his control until it harmonized with the patient's steady but still faint Reiatsu.
His fingers landed on the patient's abdomen.
Just as Unohana had demonstrated, his Reiatsu dipped like silken threads into that parched and shattered field. His Reiatsu was like a delicate, moist spring rain, silently nourishing every minute trauma.
Time passed in silence.
After an unknown amount of time, under the guidance of Suō's Reiatsu, the Hakusui was repaired and stabilized, finally completing a steady cycle.
A very soft whimper escaped the patient's throat, and his eyelashes fluttered violently. Then, those tightly closed lids opened a narrow crack with great effort.
His gaze was unfocused and dazed, carrying the weakness of one just waking from a severe injury, but he had indeed opened his eyes.
"Well done, Suō."
Unohana's voice carried a note of praise. Her gaze swept over the division member who had just regained consciousness. She perceived and confirmed the state of his Hakusui; though still faint, it was now full of vitality.
Suō withdrew his hand with a calm expression and bowed in gratitude.
"Thank you for your guidance, Captain Unohana."
"It's too early for thanks. You're going to be quite busy."
Unohana's lips curved into a smile full of mirth as she turned her gaze toward the other patients in the critical care area.
"Yes, I will work hard."
Suō was slightly startled, then nodded in realization.
"Very good."
"Remember the feeling from just now. From here on, you will take the lead in the treatments."
Unohana nodded with satisfaction. She walked toward the next bed with a light step, her captain's haori fluttering slightly as she gestured.
This was not her recklessly using the severely injured as expendable practice material for a novice. On the contrary, it was because she had absolute confidence in Suō.
In her heart, Suō was a rare genius who resonated with the essence of Kaido. The Reiatsu flowing within his body contained an almost instinctive healing tendency.
Because she had once deeply probed Suō's body, she understood his comprehensive level very well. This innate healing talent was fundamentally different from her own.
