Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 13: STRANGER IN A CART PART 1

Where am I?

There's nothing but darkness everywhere.

"You're a worthless student!?", Master Dell shouts. I shrug, trying to diminish myself from existence. How did I end up back at the village with Master? Why would he say that?

Right. I guess he knows what happened in the cannibal village. I got so angry I said I'd kill them.

I even went as far as transforming.

"He is nothing but a monster!", I hear a woman say. Do I really look that scary? I feel a tight pain in my throat.

"You're a waste of a black lycan", the large man disappointingly admits as he walks away.

"Huh!", I gasp for air as I sit up. I feel sweaty.

I gulp whilst looking around.

It was a dream. Wait where am I!? I feel the unsteadiness of the place I was sleeping on, my mind still thinking to what Benson meant by black lycan.

I'm moving...

In a Kochikala!(Ox-cart). I quickly notice someone in front of me. "Who are you?", I ask, slowly prepping my body to jump out.

A sharp numbing pain jolts through my body flopping me on the cart floor-

"Hey!...", He shouts tugging at the rope. " You shouldn't be trying to move around like that", he then says in a soft almost inaudible voice. The cart stops.

He turns and walks to me. He's short, light-skinned with compact curly hair and and carries an innocent expression on his face. "I'm Hewlett. Now rest a bit more.", He softly answers as he looks over my body in a studying gaze seated beside me. .

"Thank you...But...how did you find me?", I know nothing about this guy. Trusting someone is how I got here.

"Well that is a long story", He contemplatively responds. He stands and walks further from me. "I was there...", He sits in a corner of the cart, "In the cannibal village".

"What!".

He stands up running to me again, "I said don't move come on!". To be fair I didn't even notice myself till he said so. "I shouldn't have told you about that part", He looks over my body again. Huh, I'm in different clothes. Don't tell me I was naked when he found me.

I feel hopeless as waves of embarrassment wash over me. I notice his white robe too, he looks like someone who comes from The Faith. It eases my body believing that.

Probably noticing how embarrassed I feel, "You've been asleep for about a day", he stands, "And you had nightmares the entire time", then crosses over the cart and snaps the tether, getting the ox trotting again.

My stomach grumbles defiantly, pouring another bucket of embarrassment on me. I hope he didn't notice me over the sound of trotting ox. I'm nineteen! I should have a decent amount of control over my body.

He does look quiet though.

He stops the ox, crosses to me with a small bag in his hands, leaves a fritter in my mouth, quickly hops back to the ox, and the cart starts moving again.

Oh my god! How much embarrassment do I have to go through?! He's a saint... .He saved me and now he's feeding me. Wait. What was he doing in the cannibal village though, I think to myself as I munch on the fritter. I've never lost like that to anyone but Master. How was that psycho that strong? What'd he mean by black lycan. Benson...

"I almost forgot", Hewlett recalls, "Your master's grimoire is behind you, I couldn't savage the rest"-

The creepy book! I immediately jerk up and look behind me.

"Oh Mwelesa(god), What is up with you!?", Hewlett complains.

"Why do you expect me to just follow along when I don't know anything?", I don't honestly think he's bad but I need to be sure. I tense my body incase of anything whilst keeping my distance from the creepy book.

He doesn't stop the cart, "I'm tired of you making me stop the cart, so it's not my fault if you don't hear me-

"I can", I quickly let him know. "Your voice is soft but I can hear you just fine", He should know this since he saw me transform, right?

He pauses, "Ehem", he clears his throat, "Like I told you, I am Hewlett, a pillar of The Faith sent to the village I found you in. There has been a series of missing persons for close to half a decade now, all having no trace along this way".

"But how did The Faith not do anything for this long?", Did my Master know about this too? I've never seen him leave the village though.

"That's because there is a morbidly sordid witch at the center of it all. She has been collecting body parts from that village to use in her rituals", Hewlett explains.

"What rituals does she do with the body parts?", I get out of Kopumula for the first time then end up getting involved in the business of a witch. My Master is going to scream my head off for this.

"I was barely answering your question. You do not have to concern yourself with the rest of the details", Why does he speak so formal though? Is it something all Pillars do? Master doesn't speak like this at all though.

"Oh I understand. Thanks again", I shouldn't make him more uncomfortable than I have. My body was already healed when I woke up and I didn't feel that hungry. What'd he do to me? Even my senses feel sharper. Maybe it has something to do with me turning.

He does seem like a good guy though. "How'd you know this book was my Master's?", Tell him more depending on his answer.

"You heard me tell you it is a grimoire but you still choose to call it a book", He lets out a sigh with a small hint of a giggle, "That grimoire is of extremely high grade that's made by The Faith. It only opens for someone who has been assigned as its owner, meaning only you can open it", Good job Hewlett, well now it sounds even creepier.

"Well I think that's cool", He might give me a ride to where I'm going if I make him feel cool.

"It is my turn to ask you a question now", Didn't expect him to say something like that.

"Sure, ask away", What's going through his mind.

"What errand does your master have you doing that you would leave your post as a guardian?".
