The routine establishes itself with the specific efficiency of things that have been carefully designed for the conditions they're operating in, and efficiency in a designed thing is its own form of beauty, which I find I appreciate more than I expected to, the beauty of structure that actually holds.
Monday is the window. We meet in the east wing, which is my space, which means I'm on familiar ground and Chase is in my territory when the mechanism is at its worst, and we meet with the full knowledge of what the two hours contain and the specific preparation that the knowledge produces. We have gotten better at this over the months, the preparing of ourselves for the window the way athletes prepare for the specific conditions of a particular kind of competition, not performing calm but achieving the functional state that allows you to be present for something that costs you.
