This meager amount of bread was naturally not enough to fill the enormous stomachs of the Gryphons, but they really liked the sweet and fragrant taste of the toast. After eating, they licked their beaks, still craving a bit more.
Two younger Gryphons, who were a bit bolder, rubbed their heads against the Black Dragon's legs, acting spoiled and purring like puppies, wanting him to feed them a little more.
The Black Dragon did not fall for the Gryphons' coaxing. He spread his two small, empty claws, indicating that he was out of bread.
Then, he nimbly climbed onto the back of the largest Gryphon, grabbing its neck feathers:
"Alright, stop begging. You must work hard today as well. If we can bring back two sea monsters tonight, tomorrow morning I will ask the chef to prepare an extra piece of honey-smeared bread for each of you."
