Chapter 87 - Chapter 87: Polaris — The Captain Is a Very Nice Person

"Do you think I'm like those losers? Captain America, you've messed with the wrong guy!"

Bullseye shouted, trying to muster enough courage not to collapse under pressure.

"You've only survived this long because of that shield! Without it, you're nothing!"

Steve Rogers scoffed, calmly sheathing his shield and holstering his gun. He twisted his wrist, a faintly menacing smile—almost Hydra-like—appearing on his face.

"I'll break your bones piece by piece to repay you for trying to assassinate me last time."

He hadn't killed Bullseye earlier simply because the man was still useful. But Steve's principle was simple: favors must be repaid, and grudges avenged. No exceptions.

"Big words!" Bullseye snapped.

Before he could say more, Steve dashed forward at incredible speed and took a fighting stance. Bullseye tried to anticipate his movement and swung a low kick—

Crack!

"Aah!"

Bullseye screamed as his right leg bent unnaturally backward—completely shattered by Steve's counterkick.

Polaris watched in shock, but instead of fear, she felt a strange sense of satisfaction. It wasn't violence—it was justice.

Steve grabbed Bullseye's wrist and twisted, then slammed a kick into his ribs.

Bones cracked like dry wood. A single punch broke his nose. The brutal grappling technique dislocated both his hands, and the energy from Steve's strike shattered the bones inch by inch.

Even with today's medical technology, Bullseye would never recover fully.

In just two moves, Steve disabled a top-tier assassin and tossed him aside like a piece of trash.

He turned to Polaris and gently helped her up, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"Are you alright, miss? I saw your companion get shot by them."

"I— I'm fine, what…" Polaris's paralysis faded as she saw Steve carrying her boyfriend's body toward her.

She staggered forward, kneeling beside him, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Marcos… wake up! Marcos, please, we just started— you can't die!"

Steve sighed softly. "I'm sorry for your loss."

He knelt beside her, supporting her shoulders as she cried into his chest.

"Let it out. Crying will help," he said gently.

Polaris sobbed uncontrollably. Life as a mutant had been filled with persecution and hiding—always running, always hunted. And now, the only person she thought she could rely on was gone.

Steve felt no guilt for what he'd done.

If Marcos "Eclipse" Diaz had been a good man, Steve might have left things to fate. But the truth was, he was a selfish coward who abandoned Polaris in another timeline when she needed him most.

Killing a scumbag like that wasn't evil—it was justice.

The Pentagon should have given him a medal for cleaning up society's filth, not judged him for it.

After a long time, Polaris finally stood, her tears drying into cold resolve.

With a wave of her hand, the guns scattered on the ground floated up—submachine guns, pistols, shotguns—all aiming at the helpless Bullseye.

"You ruined everything I had," she said coldly. "Die!"

Ratatatat!

Under her magnetic control, the weapons fired simultaneously. Bullets tore Bullseye's body apart, leaving nothing but a bloody mess.

The sight was gruesome—but deeply satisfying.

Steve stepped forward and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Here's my number. You should leave now and let me handle the rest. You're a good girl, and none of this was your fault. If you have nowhere to go, I can find a safe place for you."

He smiled warmly. She was beautiful, strong, and proud—but there was a touch of vulnerability that made her even more striking.

"Thank you, Captain. I can go home. I don't want to worry my family," she said softly, hesitating as she looked down.

Her green nail polish shimmered faintly in the moonlight. "Don't you… think I'm strange?"

She meant being a mutant—a power she feared would make others see her as a monster.

Steve shook his head. "No. You and I are the same. People see me as a monster too sometimes. But with you here, I won't feel alone. Go home, Lorna. The SWAT team is on their way.

If you really consider me a friend, go home, drink a glass of milk, take a hot shower, and sleep well. Tomorrow, when you treat me to dinner, show me your most confident smile. Deal?"

Steve's smile was bright and sincere—his presence radiating calm and safety.

Polaris blushed slightly, then stepped forward and hugged him tightly, planting a soft kiss on his cheek.

"Thank you, Captain. Goodbye."

"Goodbye," Steve said, watching her lift the metal case and glide into the night sky, carried by her magnetic field.

Moments later, Blade emerged from behind a container, clapping slowly.

"Captain, if anyone says you're too old-fashioned for romance, I'll be the first to disagree!"

Steve chuckled. "Hey, Blade, feeling better?"

He wasn't the least bit embarrassed. Why should he be? Confidence was his shield now.

Blade grinned. "Much better. I'm learning Qigong from someone to help suppress my bloodlust."

He had disappeared after the last battle, continuing his vampire hunt. But interestingly, he had spared the vampires under Nissa's command.

He wasn't stupid—those vampires belonged to the Captain's wife, after all.

Besides, they behaved well, ran legitimate businesses, and even offered him discounts. Where else could you find such polite vampires?

His S.H.I.E.L.D. salary barely covered his expenses—without those side deals, he would've starved long ago.

"I'm glad to hear that," Steve said. "Keep training. Maybe you'll surpass yourself someday. What about the others?"

Before Blade could answer, Phil Coulson jogged over, followed by Crossbones and a squad of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

Seeing the unconscious gang members and the pile of weapons, Coulson was stunned. "Captain, are you alright?"

"I'm fine, Coulson," Steve said with a friendly smile. "Thanks for the backup. Let's grab dinner sometime—you've been working hard lately."

Coulson's eyes practically sparkled. He was standing beside his lifelong idol!

"Haha, it's nothing, sir. Just doing my job. How do we handle the rest of this?"

Steve waved his hand. "I shot the smuggler. The rest is yours. Take the credit—you deserve it. And don't argue. I'm planning a personal film project soon. I'll need your help."

Coulson nodded eagerly. "Yes, Captain! I'll make sure the report's accurate. And… if you ever need anything, I'm always available."

The thought that Captain America might have been involved in something shady never crossed his mind.

After all, this was Steve Rogers—

His hero. His idol.

Captain America.
