"Wake up, sleeping beauty. Your knight is here."
Zade patted Rai's cheek, his fingers lingering just a second longer than necessary as the bus finally groaned to a halt, the pneumatic brakes releasing with a loud hiss.
Rai let out a low, disgruntled mumble, shifting his weight. Instead of opening his eyes, he merely burrowed his head deeper into the crook of Zade's neck, the sheer habit of it making Zade's mouth twitch with amusement.
"You drool so much," Zade murmured, his voice laced with a lazy, teasing edge.
That instantly did the trick. Even faster than when he realized he was lying on Zade, Rai's eyes snapped open, full of sudden, defensive fury. He scrambled backward so fast he nearly cracked his head against the windowpane.
"I didn't! Don't lie, bastard!" Rai hissed, his face flaring a brilliant crimson as he frantically swiped at the corner of his mouth, realizing a second too late that he'd been played.
