"It's realistic. We should talk about it now. How we'll handle it when you start dating."
"I'm not dating anyone else."
"Not now. But eventually—"
"No. Not now. Not eventually. Not ever." Kael turned to face him fully. "I don't want anyone else. I want you. And if I can't have you the way I want, then I'll take whatever you're willing to give me. But I'm not looking for someone else."
"That's not fair to you."
"Let me worry about what's fair to me."
"Kael—"
"Asher, I waited five years without even knowing you existed. I can wait however long it takes for you to trust me again. And if that's forever, then that's forever. I'm not going anywhere."
Asher stared at him, emotions warring on his face.
"You're insane," he whispered.
"Probably. But I'm also in love with you. So insane seems about right."
"We're supposed to be just friends."
"We are just friends. Friends can be in love with each other. They just don't act on it."
