"I can," Gohan replied honestly, "but it requires ki. Aunt Bulma, you've never practiced martial arts. You'd have to start training first."
"…In that case, forget it!"
Bulma waved her hand decisively.
"Then, Aunt Bulma, you have to help me keep the clone technique a secret."
"Alright," Bulma nodded.
"Then about the Gravity Chamber?"
"I'm resting today," Bulma said lazily. "I'll help you increase it tomorrow."
"Okay."
Gohan nodded.
"Then I'll head back first."
"Alright."
With that, Gohan used Instant Transmission and vanished.
"Gohan!"
Piccolo immediately flew over when Gohan reappeared on Mount Paozu.
"Where did you just go?"
"I went to Aunt Bulma's," Gohan replied. "I asked her to increase the gravity in the Gravity Chamber again."
Piccolo nodded and didn't ask further questions.
Two weeks passed in the blink of an eye.
After working tirelessly, Bulma finally upgraded Gohan's Gravity Chamber.
"Alright, Gohan. I've increased it to five hundred times gravity."
"Thank you, Aunt Bulma."
"But listen," Bulma warned, "the higher the gravity, the harder it is to increase. You'll have to make do with five hundred times for a while."
"I understand."
"Alright then, you can go."
Gohan nodded and used Instant Transmission to return to Mount Paozu.
Somewhere in the universe, on a desolate planet.
A man was doing one-finger push-ups.
That man was Vegeta.
"9,999… 10,000!"
With a shout, Vegeta pushed himself up using only his index finger.
"No… with this kind of training, even if I train for my entire life, I still won't catch up to Kakarot and the others!"
He clenched his fists and glanced toward his spaceship.
Moments later, Vegeta boarded it and left the planet.
Two months passed.
With the Gravity Chamber now capable of reaching five hundred times gravity, Gohan's growth skyrocketed.
His combat power increased by ten million every single day.
His base power had now reached two billion.
At this moment, Gohan stood on a grassy clearing on Mount Paozu.
Goku and Piccolo watched from a distance.
"Ha!"
Gohan clenched his fists.
Boom!!
A golden aura erupted from his body. His hair turned gold and stood upright, and his eyes shifted to a light green.
Super Saiyan.
Krillin, elsewhere on Earth, sensed the massive surge of power—but assumed Gohan was just training and didn't pay it much mind.
"Ah!"
Gohan clenched his fists again.
This time, his aura surged violently upward.
The ground of Mount Paozu shook as if struck by an earthquake.
The grass beneath Gohan was blasted away, spiraling into the air like a tornado.
"S–Such a powerful aura!"
Krillin's face changed instantly as he sensed it again.
"Ahhh!"
Gohan roared.
His golden aura turned fierce and blazing. His hair grew sharper and more spiked, and arcs of lightning crackled around his body.
This was a transformation beyond Super Saiyan.
Super Saiyan 2.
Boom!!
Gohan released the ki surrounding him and stood calmly.
"Is this… a transformation beyond Super Saiyan?" Piccolo asked.
"Yes," Gohan nodded. "I call it Super Saiyan 2."
"Super Saiyan 2…"
After a moment, Gohan powered down and returned to normal.
Just then, all three of them sensed a familiar aura approaching Earth from space.
It was Vegeta.
"Vegeta," Piccolo said. "That's his ki."
"But why would he suddenly come to Earth?" Gohan asked.
"I don't know," Piccolo replied. "Should we go take a look?"
"Alright."
The three immediately flew toward the landing site.
Vegeta's spaceship landed on Earth.
Vegeta stepped out and flew toward them.
"Long time no see, Vegeta!" Goku greeted him cheerfully.
Vegeta snorted and said nothing.
Goku didn't mind.
"Why did you suddenly come to Earth? Are you here to fight me?"
"No," Vegeta replied coldly. "I'm here to train."
"Train on Earth? So you're going to live here?"
"Yes."
"Then where will you stay?"
"I don't know," Vegeta answered, then narrowed his eyes. "Kakarot… you've already become a Super Saiyan, haven't you?"
"Yes," Goku nodded.
Vegeta clenched his fists.
If he had realized earlier, he would have come to Earth long ago.
"Then tell me," Vegeta demanded, "how did you become a Super Saiyan so quickly?"
Goku thought for a moment.
"I just trained with Gohan and the others in the Gravity Chamber."
"Gravity Chamber?"
"Bulma made it. It can go up to five hundred times gravity now."
"Five… five hundred times?!"
Vegeta's eyes widened.
"Where is it?"
Goku pointed into the distance.
"That's the Gravity Chamber."
Vegeta stared at it, then asked sharply, "Where is Bulma right now?"
"She's in West City."
"Take me to her."
Goku hesitated. "Why?"
"I want her to make a Gravity Chamber for me."
"Alright," Goku agreed, "but you have to promise me you'll never harm Bulma."
"…Fine. I promise."
Vegeta agreed without hesitation.
All he wanted now was power—enough to surpass Goku and Gohan.
With that, Goku took Vegeta to West City.
Gohan and Piccolo followed closely behind.
