Ashrik and Lucille left Madam Huang's small house, their disguises back into place. They walked unhurriedly as they headed to the bustling commercial district.
As the pair got nearer to the commercial district, they walked past the espers who had dressed more oddly than they. Some concealed their faces because of scars, while others were simply being vigilant.
Thus, to any onlooker, Ashrik and Lucille's simple disguises were nothing. No one spared them a second glance.
In recent years, each base's checkpoints required the survivors to reveal their faces upon entering or leaving. That was another reason why Ashrik and his comrades had to sneak in.
Lucille and Ashrik walked side by side, passing the lines of makeshift stalls and shops. The scent of dried meat, fried pancakes and steamed buns floated in the air.
"They should be around here," he said, leaning closer toward her. "Maybe at the alley already. Let's go."
