Ashrik and Lucille returned to the space, the grass underfoot swayed gently as if greeting them home. The night air felt crisp and clean. Its tranquility was a pleasant contrast to the savagery they had just witnessed.
Lucille quietly took a step away once Ashrik released her waist. She glanced around, staring at the cottages that stood quietly in their usual spots. Everyone had retreated to their rooms.
At midnight, the entire place was wrapped in a peaceful hush. The stream gurgled softly as little stars sparkled under the moonlight. The breeze carried the gentle rustle of the leaves.
Two figures suddenly broke the silence.
"Woof! Woof!"
Dobby and Ponyo rushed forward once they sensed Lucille and Ashrik's appearance. They leaped from the front porch, bursting forward like furry cannonballs.
Ashrik clicked his tongue. "They certainly aren't rushing to welcome me."
