Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 19

Ada was busy but she was getting lonely. She could not bring herself to sleep tonight. She wondered what Ikenna was doing now. Was he also sleeping? She sorely missed his presence in the room even if they did not talk much. She began to think of the good qualities she had noticed in him but refused to admit to herself untill now. He was true to his word and he was just.

Some brutes would have taken advantage of the situation by sleeping with her, but he didn't. He slept on the floor so she could understand how committed he was to his lover. Ada thought how lucky the maiden was whom Ikenna had given his heart, then she willed herself to stop thinking about Ikenna. What could she do to keep herself busy at this time of the night? She couldn't possibly cook.

Ikenna lay on the bed at the royal palace of Umacha and wondered how his beloved was faring in Afudo. He did not tell her he was leaving, but he had sent a message to Ogechi through his personal body guard. He had waited for her at the forest, but she did not come to him.

So far his visit has been successful. He was able to oversee the farms owned by his father in Umacha, and it was obvious the harvest was going to be good. He would return to Afudo tomorrow. It was a whole day's journey and he had to rest If he was going to leave early in the morning.

He began to think of Ada and wondered what she was doing now. Was she thinking of him? They were both deeply in love with other people, so that was out of question. He closed his eyes and tried to sleep, but he kept seeing Ada's eyes. They were beautiful, but so we're Ogechi's own trying to comfort himself. He was sure he felt this way because he had not been with Ogechi for a while. When he returned he would see Ogechi, and Ada would be out of his mind.

That would be the remedy.

Back in Afudo, Ada had found no remedy for getting the prince out of her head, or her dreams. She was sure that once she looked into his cold eyes her indifference towards him would return.

Ada woke up early the next morning feeling restless. She took a stroll within the palace walking towards the servant's quarter to see If Nikita was up already.

As she drew closer, she heard the sounds of someone more like one whispering and singing. It was a maid kneeling beside the quarters. Ada had never seen her before and wondered what was wrong with her. She moved closer and noticed this maiden was smiling, as she quietly sang and and sobbed at the same time. It felt like she was talking to someone Ada could not see. Ada blinked and stared to be sure there was no other person there.

Thank you, Jesus; Ada heard her say, as though she had concluded her discussion with whoever when was talking to, Ada walked towards her. The maiden seemed very happy seemed very happy and peaceful, Ada wanted to know more about her so she spoke first.

'Good morning;
