Chapter 1 - The warm stranger

She entered the mansion gates wondering constantly about her impulsive choice guided by the head Butler, she suddenly came to a halt. All the members of the Verne Dukedom were standing in front of her. She thought maybe the rumors were false but soon realized that the rumors were very much accurate, noticing the awkward atmosphere. She wondered if it was the old man's work. It had to be. She couldn't think of another reason. But it wasn't all she had to see. Later that night, she was guided to the dining hall by a servant. She was once again greeted with the same awkwardness met with the little girl missing from the scene this time." Where is the little one?" She asked." you mean You mean Ellie? She doesn't come down for dinner. Never, so don't bother." The second replied," Even if you did bother, she wouldn't come down anyways." Ellora. found it odd to always skip dinner even when it's available, or maybe hunger was getting the best of her. She clearly wanted to respect the young Misses Choice, maybe it was a habit She Concluded. She still didn't feel easy. She found it quite odd for a 12-year-old to be skipping dinner, but what didn't sit right with her was that nobody asked her, nor knew the reason. She should at least ask. A thought emerged. Maybe just check she was family now. She had turned to the stairs before she realized. She was casting her meddlesome nature as she walked through Ellie's room. Reaching the door, she was about to knock when she hears muffled cries, panic seized her as she entered. She was confused. She was confused when she saw the little girl crouching in the corner of the room, sobbing alone. She was very small, way smaller than girls her age. She walked towards the shaking girl, who was frightened by her presence. She stopped and sat down beside her, waiting quietly, not a word. The girl went from fear to confusion, and finally she couldn't take it anymore, No one had ever ignored it like this. Not even a word. Oddly she was not offended but found it comforting Instead. She found the stranger before her both comfortable, yet strange. She Suddenly felt impulsive. She wrapped herself into the arms of this impassive stranger besides her, and tears started to flow until there were no more left. Suddenly her stomach let out a rumble. "Shall we go eat" the stranger? No, her new sister-in-law was looking at her expectantly. Yes, she answered. Ellora stepped into the dining hall again, but with another hand this time. The others were slightly shocked to see Ellie in the dining hall, and with a smile at that. She always looked sad and gloomy, but today she was beaming with a hand held in the hands of the new sister-in-law. Raymond himself couldn't believe what he saw. His grandfather had desperately wished and threatened him for this new granddaughter in law. His grandfather had asked him to try for atleast a year. If it still didn't work out, they could break off the marriage. The new warmth at the dining table had all of them enchanted. Dinner was always quiet and gloomy in the Verne Dukedom. They even felt a little grateful for this new change, unaware of the storm that had arrived. Ellora too, for the first time in a while felt like she could eat in peace. The hunters couldn't chase her all the way to the Dukedom. It was the safest place for hiding.
