Chapter 16 - Ch 16: Entering Izuku’s House

"Can... Can someone without a Quirk be a hero?"

Hearing that question, Herman tilted his head in confusion.

"Doesn't what we're doing right now make us heroes?"

"Eh?"

Seeing Izuku's bewilderment, Herman pointed at the trash around them.

"We're cleaning up this beach. We're helping the community. We're sacrificing our time and energy for the greater good. We are already heroes, Midoriya. So what does it have to do with Quirks?"

For a moment, Izuku was left speechless, and his mouth opened and closed like a fish.

"But... the entrance exam... they test for combat abilities and... and... the Hero License..."

"You have got the wrong idea." Herman interrupted Izuku in the middle.

"The world may demand Quirks from heroes, but having a Quirk is not what truly makes someone a hero. In fact, that's the wrong question to ask, as long as you know what a Hero is."

Following that, he turned his back to Izuku, shadowing himself against the rising sun.

The dramatic lighting made him look imposing and cool, and with the scene perfectly set, he continued to bullshit with a perfectly straight face.

"For me, a Hero is someone who sacrifices himself for the greater good, helps people despite the odds, and brings a smile to people's faces. There were heroes before quirks manifested, you know. It's just that today, being a Hero is a profession, so people have started putting up demands. But many Heroes' quirks are so weak that they could easily be replaced with technology, yet they are heroes. Why? Is it really because of their quirk? No! It's because of that undying will to help others that they become a Hero. That is what truly makes them what they are."

Once again, Herman turned around, this time directly facing Izuku. He raised his hand towards the sky and declared.

"A Hero is a Hero whether he has a quirk or not. Of course, being a Hero without a quirk is extremely difficult in today's society. I won't lie to you. But it's not an inevitability that one must have it."

'Ugh! So cringey.'

Disregarding his own internal disgust, from an objective standpoint, Herman knew his speech was perfect. It wasn't too long, nor was it too short, and it struck the right balance of feeding inspirational propaganda.

Combined with the fact that All Might had said similar words earlier and the sheer confidence Herman exuded, the words were devastatingly effective against Izuku, who just wanted his dream to be acknowledged.

Not to mention, this was all enhanced by the subtle hypnotic suggestions Herman was feeding Izuku's subconscious:

'Trust him... Believe him.... He is so mature...'

As such, this hit Izuku deep. And how could it not?

'Even in my previous life, I fed a lot of propaganda bullshit to many people. Let alone here, where I have a Hypnosis skill to force it into someone's head.'

"This... is the same as… All Might."

Izuku mumbled to himself before his eyes almost teared up, and he looked at Herman as if he was the second coming of All Might.

"Y-you really think so, Herman-kun?"

"Of course. Why? You don't think so?"

That question made Izuku clench his fists, but his conviction was still slightly shaken under his own self-doubt.

"I do! I really do! But... people say..."

Without waiting for Izuku to finish, Herman said straightforwardly. "People say a lot of bullshit. Ask yourself, why are you training?"

"W-what?"

"Clearly, asking me such a question means you don't have a Quirk," Herman pointed out, watching Izuku flinch at the accuracy of the deduction. "Or your Quirk is unsuitable for use. But the mere fact that you are here, moving this trash until your arms feel like jelly, training your body, and helping society at the same time... Such a noble cause! Clearly, you haven't given up, right?"

Using his Art of Bullshit, Herman spouted nonsense after nonsense instinctively, ensuring his suggestions were permanently rooted in Izuku's mind, and it worked flawlessly.

As time passed, with his eloquent lies and continuous use of hypnosis to reinforce the suggestion that he was Izuku's best friend, Herman soon altered the boy's fragile mentality.

By the end of the training session, Herman had almost become like a father figure to him. Of course, the fact that All Might wasn't here only made the manipulation that much easier.

'Hook, line, and sinker. Time to end this, Deku!'

Once Herman saw that the sun was high enough in the sky, he didn't wait a moment longer. When they moved to the final pile of debris near the pier, Herman grabbed a particularly sharp piece of scrap metal sticking out of a mound of rubbish.

"Let's clear this last bit, Izuku!"

"R-right!"

Then, before Izuku could notice, Herman's tracksuit got "accidentally" caught on a sharp, rusted edge of the metal.

Riip—!

As expected, the entire side of his tracksuit jacket and his shirt tore away cleanly with the slightest movement, and the sound of tearing fabric echoed across the beach.

It looked like a clumsy accident, but in reality, he had simply used his Transformation Quirk to stretch the fibers from the inside and guide the tear perfectly.

Without the jacket, his six-pack abs and aesthetically lean, muscular body were suddenly exposed to the open air, glistening with sweat, and he made a face full of distress, looking down at the ruined cloth.

"Ah shit, how am I gonna go home now?"

Even though he pretended to have muttered it to himself, he spoke loud and clear for Izuku to hear.

And at the same time, as Izuku turned towards him, he secretly implanted another hypnotic suggestion in the boy's brain to trigger his natural helpful nature.

'He needs help... Help your best friend... Invite him into your house, which is close to the beach...'

Subsequently, Izuku's eyes widened as they locked onto Herman's torso. He stuttered for a second as his brain took in the command, and then he blurted out exactly what Herman wanted him to say.

"H-Herman-kun! My house is nearby! You can... um, come there for a change of clothes!"

"Really? Thanks, man. You're a life saver."

And so, with a wicked smile hidden in his heart and a surprised expression on his face, he followed the nervous green-haired boy away from the beach.

They walked the short distance to the apartment complex where Izuku lived. Reaching the door to his apartment, Izuku fumbled with his keys before finally unlocking it.

"Mom! I'm home! I... I brought a friend!" Izuku called out.

As the door swung open fully, revealing the entryway, standing there, having come to see who it was, was Inko Midoriya, Izuku's mother.

She was a plump, petite woman with a round, kind face and curly hair, wearing a simple house dress that highlighted her curves in all the right places, giving her a plump and motherly appearance.

The moment Inko saw Herman, specifically his exposed torso where his tracksuit was torn, her face flushed red, and she felt a bit intimidated in front of such a tall, handsome young man.

"O-oh my! Izuku... w-who is this friend of yours?"

"Nice to meet you, Auntie. I'm Herman Melville."

Herman gave Inko an innocent, charming smile, though on the inside, he was chuckling evilly in his heart.

'Hello, Mommy, surprise surprise. New Daddy's home after buying some milk. Hope you don't mind. Hehehe.'

The wolf in the sheep's clothing finally entered the little lamb's house.
