It felt like the calm before a storm.
A handsome young Feline man let out a sigh. Immediately, a grinning Liberi woman popped up beside him, teasing as usual.
"Well, well—why does the Special Ops department's 'pretty flower' look so down today?"
The Feline man shifted away impatiently and turned his head, clearly not wanting to engage.
"I just don't want to waste time. I didn't join Special Ops to sit around and play."
The Liberi woman laughed.
"Then transfer to Intelligence already. Special Ops isn't a place a man like you should be."
That line instantly lit the fuse.
The Feline man shot to his feet and glared at her.
"What do you mean by that? If you look down on me, step outside and we'll settle it!"
"Hey, hey, no need for that." The Liberi woman waved both hands, still smiling. "I don't want to mess up that pretty little face."
Seeing he was genuinely angry, she finally softened and apologized, lowering her tone.
"Sorry, sorry. I shouldn't have provoked you. How about I treat you to a meal later?"
"In your dreams!" he snapped. "You've used that trick a thousand times!"
Rolling his eyes at his colleague—who had already moved in again like glue—he shooed her away as if swatting a fly.
"Go on. A new colleague is coming today. Don't get in the way of my work."
"A newbie? Now?" The Liberi woman froze for a beat. "Things have been unstable lately. Joining this department now… that's some serious nerve."
The Feline man ignored her rambling. He glanced up at the clock, frowning.
"Strange. He said seven o'clock. Why isn't he here—"
"Good morning, everyone."
"Ah!"
The sudden greeting startled the Feline man so badly he sprang off his chair and—by pure reflex—jumped straight into the Liberi woman's arms. She looked extremely pleased with herself.
"Who is it?!" he snapped, whipping his head around.
And there he was.
Chen Mo—smiling, waving casually like they were old friends.
"The timing should be perfect. I'm not late, am I?"

The Feline man shoved the woman off him and stared, curious, as the silver-haired man began rummaging in his pocket as if looking for something.
"You're Chen Mo, right? The new colleague the higher-ups specifically told us about?"
So he really was the newcomer with the résumé scary enough to give people nightmares. And those underworld rumors—wild as they sounded—weren't exaggerated at all…
"If there isn't another Chen Mo around here, then yes, that's me," Chen Mo said with a grin. "Here—consider it a small gift. Please accept it."
He pulled out several blank autograph photos and handed them over. The Liberi woman's eyes nearly caught fire.
"A gorgeous man who's also kind-hearted—thank you so much!"
"Miss Sora's autograph… Those men will die of envy when they see this!"
The Feline man was just as excited, but he managed to keep his composure. He took the autograph photo—then immediately kicked the Liberi woman.
"You got your gift, now leave! I need to show Mr. Chen Mo the workflow and his post!"
The Liberi woman trotted away happily. It was obvious she didn't want "Sora's autograph" for purely innocent reasons.
The Feline man knew exactly what she was like. He glared after her for a moment—then instantly turned bright and friendly as he introduced himself to Chen Mo.
"My name is Bai Li. I'll be your colleague from here on out. Come—I'll take you to your workstation."
Chen Mo nodded and followed Bai Li, taking in the department's furnishings, devices, and equipment along the way.
One of the most dangerous departments, indeed. They used the best of everything.
"Our Special Ops division is a highly trained unit. We handle high-risk missions—hostage rescues, counterterrorism, capturing fugitives, and more."
"We have the most advanced weapons and protective gear. And the best benefits and pay."
"Normal work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Weekends off. Unless there's an emergency, that's the schedule."
Bai Li pushed open a door at the far back corner of the Special Ops floor and stepped aside, revealing a private office—roughly seven to eight square meters.
Seeing Chen Mo's curiosity, Bai Li continued his careful explanation with a smile.
"The LGD currently has six major squads. Each squad has twelve teams, and each team has five members."
"But because you're… a special case, Chen Mo, you won't be assigned to any combat team."
"And therefore…"
Bai Li paused deliberately, then delivered the punchline:
"Congratulations, Chen Mo. You are now the Captain of the Seventh Squad."
Chen Mo had just sat down in a swivel chair—the exact type he'd played with in Ch'en's office before.
He froze.
Promoted to squad captain on the first day?
"Do I have to recruit my own people afterward?"
So Arknights just turned into Mount & Blade? Nice. Very nice.
Bai Li burst out laughing, covering his mouth from the doorway.
"How could that be? You're still a newcomer. For now, you're simply an officer in Special Ops with captain-level authority. You don't need to patrol every day like ordinary officers."
"Unless your relative is the Governor of Lungmen—then maybe someone really could create a Seventh Squad just for you."
Chen Mo immediately lost interest. He leaned back and spun the chair lazily.
"Then forget it. I'm too lazy. If you make me manage a bunch of people, I'll just find it annoying."
He raised a hand in thanks.
"Appreciate it, Bai Li. Sorry to trouble you with all this."
Bai Li's smile was bright. He waved the autograph photo Chen Mo had given him.
"If anything, I should be the one thanking you. We just met and you already gave me something this valuable."
He wasn't the materialistic type, but receiving a gift you truly want still made anyone happy.
As if remembering something, Bai Li added a sincere warning.
"By the way—things in the Lower City have been unstable lately. It's very possible the LGD will need to step in."
"And you're famous in the underworld. Now that you're an officer, be careful—some people might come looking for revenge."
If they really had that kind of courage, District 19 wouldn't have become a one-family empire in the first place.
Chen Mo couldn't be bothered to explain. He simply listened and gave Bai Li an OK gesture.

Ignoring Exusiai's sulky glare, Emperor turned toward Texas, who had remained silent and was already fully prepared.
"This job won't be simple. Don't come back missing arms and legs."
