Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Sunshine and Secrets

The morning air was fresh and crisp, carrying the faint scent of the sea and wildflowers from the gardens. Yumi wandered along the cobblestone path, enjoying the warmth of the sun on her skin. Her thoughts kept drifting to Pherrie, who had a way of making even the simplest mornings feel exciting.

"Princess!" Pherrie's voice rang out, and Yumi turned to see him leaning casually against the railing of the garden balcony, that playful smirk already on his face.

"Good morning, Pherrie," she called softly, smiling.

He pushed off the railing and walked over, hands in his pockets. "You're up early. Planning something sneaky, I see."

Yumi laughed. "Me? Never. I'm just… enjoying the morning."

"Uh-huh," he said, raising an eyebrow and stepping closer. "You're enjoying the morning and thinking about me, aren't you?"

Yumi groaned, cheeks heating. "You're impossible!"

Pherrie's grin widened. "And yet, you keep letting me tease you, Princess. That must mean something."

She tried to ignore the flutter in her chest, but her fingers twitched slightly where he had brushed past hers. "Maybe it doesn't mean anything," she muttered.

"Sure," he said, leaning closer just enough to make her aware of him. "We'll see about that later."

As they walked toward the meadow near the forest, the sound of laughter echoed behind them. Kai and Damian appeared, each carrying a basket for a small scavenger hunt the teacher had suggested for the students still on holiday.

"Ready to lose, Pherrie?" Kai called out, smirking. "I hope you're prepared!"

Pherrie glanced at Yumi with a teasing sparkle in his eyes. "Not if I'm with my Princess. We're going to win this."

Damian frowned, crossing his arms. "Hmph. Don't get too cocky. I can still beat you."

Yumi felt a small laugh escape her. The tension between the four of them was playful, yet she noticed how Pherrie subtly stayed closer to her, his hand occasionally brushing hers.

The scavenger hunt began, and the four of them darted across the meadow, searching for clues and little hidden tokens. Pherrie and Yumi worked together naturally, their laughter blending as they found one clue after another.

Kai tried to outpace them, but Pherrie always seemed to anticipate her moves, teasing her with a grin whenever she stumbled or got distracted by a flower. Damian, meanwhile, muttered under his breath, clearly frustrated that Yumi was staying close to Pherrie instead of paying attention to him.

By the time the hunt ended, Pherrie and Yumi had collected the most tokens, winning by just a few points.

"See?" Pherrie said, holding up the last token triumphantly. "Told you, Princess. Teamwork makes the dream work."

Yumi laughed, nudging him gently. "We make a good team, don't we?"

"You have no idea," he replied, smirking and giving her a playful bow. "And I'm not letting anyone take my Princess away."

Kai pouted but laughed, shaking her head. "Fine, fine. You win… this time."

Damian huffed but eventually shrugged, muttering something about "next time."

Yumi looked up at Pherrie, her heart light. The teasing, playful closeness between them felt safe, warm, and full of friendship. And for now, that was more than enough.

The sun hung high, golden and bright, as they headed back toward the resort together—four friends, laughter echoing through the meadow, and the kind of summer memories that would last a lifetime.
