Chapter 9 - WHY?!

Evan woke up drowsy, finding multiple lit candles all around. He never understood why they didn't use bulbs but never asked.

He tried sitting up only to find his legs and arms chained to the four bed posts. He tried moving, making them rattle. He moved his head upward and what he saw made his blood run cold.

Evan saw thirteen figures, various sizes wearing black cloaks, but imposing nonetheless. One by one they slowly moved back the hoods of their cloaks.

Evan's apprehension turned into innocent, unguarded suprise. He watched them, quietly waiting for some sort of explanation. Casta's mother, moved closer, lightning crackling around her figure.

She bowed, which made Evan tilt his head to the side. She wore a chilling grin. Evan looked at her and the rest and saw their slow, forming 'kind' smiles.

Seemed they wanted to give him a proper farewell. Evan's face palled and he felt his throat tighten. He was 'gently' carresed by the lightning, pushing him close to the edge.

It was not the physical but the mental pain that made him almost break. It was still dark so they didn't see the use of healing him, at least, not yet.

After her came her children, burning him until his pale white skin resembled charcoal. Evan grit his teeth and endured. Next was Darius' mother.

She made sure he wore a slow healing pendant. It was cheap and mostly used by commoners, that didn't mean it had no use in torture though.

It slowly healed his wounds as she started a raging inferno starting from his toes, slowly enveloping him in scorching flames. It burned the entire outer skin, teasing his pain receptors.

She let the fire die out slowly then came the green head. She used her wind magic to fan the flames while also cutting him right along his veins. She was methodical in her approach.

Her two sons made sure to just beat him around with wind while her daughter, used her magic to probe his mind, instilling fear and pain that , finally, made him groan in pain.

His mental fortitude was strong but far from invincible. For a while, it vanished, like it never existed. Evan was confused, momentarily forgetting the situation.

Darius pulled Night closer to Evan roughly. Night had a fearful look in his eyes filled with fear and... curiosity? Night stared at Evan and Evan stared at Darius.

Darius grinned, in a way that would make even the joking villain of Earth, quake in his boots. Evan did not see what happened but felt something was wrong.

Darius let go of Night and walked back to the group as Night's head fell with a wet thud while its body collapsed. A pool of crimson spread underneath the corpse.

Evan's eyes widened in horror. ' Why? How?' those were the thoughts going through Evan's head. Before Evan could think further he felt sickening pain, straight through the bones, then his body going limp.

Not only because of the pain, but the fact he was struck by lightning unawares. He looked at his body, but, nothing was amiss. Everything was as it was.

The realisation dawned on him like the reaper bringing death. His face palled for all to see. His body trembled then spasmed as he felt a slight tingling sensation, like how he felt when healed.

The lightning it went through the one opening that is not part of his head. She had sent lightning straight through his butt hole. Then, as if that was just a sequel, more bolts came , going through and hitting the same place.

Evan felt his insides get shredded and burnt. It was the worst torture ever. Even the psychos of Earth would at least not do that. Tears started streaming down his face though no sound came.

Evan would not give them the benefit of hearing him in pain. Elena stepped up and gave Evan a vision. In the vision, Evan was as he was, chained, but a shadowy figure walked up to him, a hammer, no, king-sized mallet in hand.

It resembled the one Harley something owned. The figured raised the mallet and brought it down on his family jewels. If you have ever been hit, even by accident, you know how painful it is.

The pain was so intense it forcefully brought him out of the vision. Tears fell more freely , his breath was ragged and uneven, sweat formed all over and his ever- so- little mana leaked.

He literally had little control. He saw Elena's sweet smile before she went to the group. To others, that smile would anyone's day instantly brighten, but to Evan...

That smile was anything but sweet. He was sure that the devil would rather rage war alone against the heavens than stay with her for a minute while she's pissed.

Evan stared at her, eyes watching her every move. It was not to understand her, no, it was out of pure paranoia. Fatigue hit him like a truck but their relentless assault kept him up.

This continued until dawn, them trying all they can to break him. As he expected, Clara was nowhere to be seen. Duke Ronald Augustine soon entered, visibly pissed.

He didn't bother to lower his voice," WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! HE'S THE SON OF MY LATE WIFE!" He took a shaky breath, trying to calm down," Wait there , I will deal with you later."

He moved to Evan and unchained him, all the while apologising with excuses in-between. As soon as he was free, Evan enveloped his father in a tight embrace.

Ronald hugged him back with one hand but Evan didn't really care. Turns out Ronald was twirling his index finger behind his back, then moved his free hand to hug Evan.

After a while he lightly pushed Evan back then released a merciless punch to Evan's guy. It contained little power but years worth of resentment for his son.

Evan fell to his knees, coughing blood and looked at his father with betrayed eyes which earned him a kick to the solar plex. He had hoped he would faint and be momentarily free but the pendant healed him.

His father moved back and what he saw made his breath catch. 'Why? What did I do to deserve this? I never asked nor complained about anything, so ,why?' Evan felt himself at the verge of tears.

Why? Cause a bright blue ball or combined mana stood before his family. It radiated their combined mana. Ronald added his mana and it darkened slightly.

Elena walked up to him and whispered in his ear," Do not worry brother. It dangerous now but I will add mine to make it more... friendly." She sweetly smiled but it looked like the devil's smile after luring someone into signing away their soul for practically nothing.

She walked back and added her mana. Instantly it changed from blue to black with shimmering rippled across its surface. It was mesmerizing under the dawn sun's rays.

If it were not for the fact that they wanted to 'play' with him, he would have just admired it. It flew towards him at impossible speeds. Evan knew it was pointless trying to dodge so he crossed his arms Infront of him.

Sadly, he was a second to late and hit him squarely on the forehead. Immediately after, he started rolling on the ground, trembling and gasping for breaths.

It felt like molten metal was poured on his skin, washed by boiling water, nails he thought were white hot, poking his skin drilling deeper to his marrow.

His mind was not spared, it was breaking down, fast. Memories of his past life, his girlfriend leaving him simply because he adopted a cat which died soon after.

His boss firing him just a day before the end of the month for no reason at all. His little sister, the only family left, neglected and died of cancer, the bank stripping him of everything for the loans used in his late sister.

And his pitiful death coming with flashes of the six figures scaring him for life. He felt his mind unravel. Suddenly, another eavevif the same, but more intense, came.

He was barely able to see through the pain, and watch Elena, her arrogant walk and blue hair approach. He felt dread washing over him as she approached.
