Chapter 75 - Like Rotten Wood and Dry Leaves — Arriving Before the Gates of Chernobog

The Wendigo—a fearsome race from the ancient Teekaz Empire, one of the Ten Royal Courts—was among the most terrifying beings on Terra.

Their combat prowess ranked at the very top even when compared with other royal bloodlines. Legends said that in ancient times, just three Wendigos were enough to raze a small city.

Now, when the lord climbed the city wall and looked down, what met his eyes was a sight straight out of a nightmare—

Wendigos covering the land as far as the eye could see.

"Wendigos… everywhere."

In the past, he would never have dared to put those two words together in the same sentence.

Yet now, he was seeing it with his own eyes.

Hundreds of towering Wendigos, eyes glowing red, advanced toward the city. Even the thick city walls beneath his feet seemed to tremble.

There was no orderly formation—none was needed.

They paid little attention to the soldiers on the walls, because in their eyes, these men—already scared out of their wits—were nothing more than lambs awaiting slaughter.

Facing such a hellish scene, the soldiers atop the walls were already shaking uncontrollably. The fact that they were still standing at all was a miracle.

"My lord… what should we do?"

Hearing his subordinate's question, the lord's vacant eyes twitched slightly as he barely regained a shred of clarity.

But he didn't answer.

What could he do?

He wanted to know the answer himself.

Three Wendigos could destroy a small city. So tell him—could his not-so-small, but certainly not large, domain withstand an assault from hundreds of Wendigos?

There was no need to think.

The Wendigos below quickly gave him the answer.

"ROAR—!!!"

The leading Wendigo drew the massive spear from its back, charged it with power, and hurled it toward the city wall with a thunderous roar.

The others followed suit.

Hundreds of spears crackling with crimson lightning rained down on the walls.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

What had seemed like solid fortifications collapsed under the barrage. Soldiers on the walls screamed as they fell along with the crumbling stone.

It was just one round of spear-throwing, yet the devastation rivaled a full bombardment.

When the dust settled, the once-intact walls were riddled with holes.

"My lord!"

The lord—who had survived only because he'd been standing farther back—scrambled to his feet, covered in dust.

Ignoring his subordinates' cries, he turned and ran toward the interior of the city without looking back.

Yes.

He was running away.

After a single volley, the walls were already on the verge of collapse. The Wendigo army's sheer power was so absurd it felt like someone had filled in the numbers with their feet.

In the face of that, what was the point of resisting?

Anyone who didn't run immediately was practically a saint.

Seeing this, the remaining soldiers exchanged glances—then scattered. Some fled, others surrendered.

This wasn't an isolated case.

Wherever the Wendigo army passed, nearly every domain either surrendered at first sight or was forcibly breached after a single spear volley. Any soldiers who resisted were trampled to death like roadside dogs.

After all, every cloned Wendigo possessed combat power equivalent to an Imperial Guard.

An army of two thousand Wendigos was equivalent to two thousand Imperial Guards.

What kind of city could withstand that?

Perhaps such a city existed—but it certainly wasn't ruled by these wine-soaked Ursus nobles.

Thus, when faced with a terrifying army composed entirely of Wendigos, fleeing or kneeling no longer seemed unacceptable to these once-arrogant lords.

With the Wendigo army smashing cities in the vanguard, the Third Army Group and the infected forces expanded from Reunion followed behind, taking control and cleaning up.

In just a few short days, the army marching under Talulah's name reached the gates of Chernobog.

The speed was so fast that even the observers had no time to react.

Facing the final objective at close range, the Wendigo vanguard—rarely—did not immediately launch an assault. Instead, they waited a day, regrouping with the Third Army Group arriving from behind.

Arriving with the army were An Xora, Talulah, and the others.

As for Mebius, she did not appear.

In her view, rather than attending a war whose outcome was already decided, she'd rather spend her time researching new ideas and cooking up fresh "projects" for Terra.

After all, with An Xora's current strength—his lightning-fast mobility and the system's traversal ability—there was no longer any real danger to him. He no longer needed his avatars to stay glued to his side like before.

"Should we begin the final assault?"

Adhering to the principle that delay breeds trouble, Talulah quietly asked An Xora after allowing the soldiers a brief rest.

"Not yet. Drink this first."

Instead of issuing the attack order, An Xora took out a vial of golden liquid and handed it to the white-haired Draco.

"What is this?"

"Limit-Breaking Serum. It enhances strength and potential. Drink it now."

"Alright."

Without hesitation or doubt, Talulah downed the golden liquid in one gulp.

Instantly, blazing flames erupted around her, her aura surging just as it had back in the snowy village.

If she had previously possessed the strength of four Imperial Guards, she now surpassed even Patriot after his enhanced monster cell—equivalent to six to seven Imperial Guards.

Barring colossal beasts and a few rare existences, such power made her nearly unrivaled in the current Terra.

"Not bad."

An Xora nodded in satisfaction.

"Then… can we order the army to attack now?"

After briefly adjusting to her newfound power, Talulah asked again.

She wanted nothing more than to overthrow the Emperor of Ursus and build a nation where infected and uninfected could coexist peacefully. With the goal so close—just one final step away—being forced to wait felt unbearable.

And the switch was in An Xora's hands.

Without his permission, no matter how anxious she was, she could only endure it.

"Attacking is fine," An Xora said with a faint smile, glancing at the distant walls.

"But if the soldiers just attack normally, it feels like it lacks impact."

"So, to maximize intimidation—and to ensure your name spreads across all of Terra…"

He pointed toward Chernobog's towering walls.

"Do you see them?"

"Talulah—use your awe-inspiring power."

"Go and blast them apart."
