Chapter 17 - The Secret of the Bunker

Chapter 16: The Secret of the Bunker 🏰🗝️

The old Kang estate sat on the outskirts of Seoul, a fortress of stone and silence surrounded by high walls and weeping willows. Once a symbol of prestige, it now felt like a mausoleum.

Infiltration: Ghosting the Perimeter 🌲👣

Rain still drizzled as Jisong and Yeonjun cut through the heavy iron fence. They moved like shadows, avoiding the thermal cameras Secretary Kim had temporarily scrambled.

Yeonjun (Whispering): "My father hasn't stayed here in years. He says the house 'whispers' too much. But the security is still active. He's hiding something more than just memories."

Jisong: "The recording mentioned a 'Red Ledger.' If we get that, the police won't just investigate—they'll have to arrest every board member of the Kang Group."

They reached the library, a room filled with the smell of old paper and betrayal. Yeonjun moved to a specific bookshelf, pulling a leather-bound copy of The Art of War. A low mechanical hum vibrated through the floorboards.

The Descent: The Sins of the Father 🔦🏛️

The floor slid back to reveal a narrow, spiral staircase made of cold steel. As they descended, the air grew heavy and metallic. At the bottom was a high-tech bunker—not for survival, but for secrets.

Screens lined the walls, flickering with live feeds from every office in the Kang Tower. In the center sat a heavy titanium safe.

Jisong: "The code. Do you have it?"

Yeonjun: "He used the same numbers for everything. The date the village was burned. He called it his 'Day of Triumph.'"

Yeonjun's fingers trembled as he punched in the digits. [ACCESS GRANTED]. The heavy door hissed open. Inside was a single, blood-red notebook.

The Ambush: A Shadow Returns 🦅🔫

"It's a beautiful book, isn't it? Too bad you'll never get to read the final chapter."

The voice was like grinding stones. They spun around to see The Vulture standing at the base of the stairs. His clothes were singed from the previous night's explosion, and his left eye was swollen shut, but his gun was perfectly level.

The Vulture: "The Chairman is finished. But I? I'm a freelancer. And the rivals of the Kang Group will pay a fortune for that ledger—and for the heads of the two boys who stole it."

Jisong: "You're bleeding, Vulture. You're slow."

The Vulture: "Slow enough to pull a trigger."

The Final Stand 💥🧨

Jisong didn't go for his gun. He grabbed a heavy glass award from the desk and smashed a nearby gas pipe running along the wall. The hiss of escaping pressurized gas filled the small room.

Jisong: "Fire your gun, Vulture. We all go up together. Let's see who fears death more—the man with nothing, or the man with a price on his head."

The Vulture hesitated. In that split second of doubt, Yeonjun tackled him. They crashed into the server racks, sparks flying everywhere. Jisong dived into the fray, his movements a blur of martial arts and desperation.

With a final, echoing thud, Jisong delivered a knee to the Vulture's chest, pinning him against the leaking pipe.

Jisong: "This is for the village."

He didn't kill him. Instead, he used the Vulture's own handcuffs to chain him to the safe.

The Escape: Into the Light 🌅🔥

As they climbed back up the stairs, the sound of sirens approached. Not the private security this time—the real police, tipped off by Secretary Kim.

They stepped out onto the lawn just as the sun began to break through the Seoul fog. Jisong held the Red Ledger tight against his chest.

Yeonjun: "It's over, isn't it?"

Jisong: "No. The trial is next. But for the first time in twenty years... I can breathe."

They walked toward the gates, leaving the fortress of lies behind them. The Red Ledger was about to set the city on fire.

The evidence is secure. The truth is out. Is it time for the Grand Finale? ⚖️🏛️
