Chapter 18 - Chapter 018 : Maiden's Demise

The day was sombre, with all the competitors present being from local academies or younger debuts to the track. Not a single person besides Kincsem wasn't from the United Kingdom or Ireland, which was unsurprising considering this was a simple Maiden race.

Today's race would have nineteen racers with the inclusion of Kincsem, with her being the favourite and the second favourite being Flying Millie. Though not having formally debuted, Kincsem had already been a formidable foe during her time as a trainee in British Tracen.

As she stood, stretching out her muscles for a final time before the race would begin. She surveyed the other racers from her area. Everything was usual, with nothing unordinary in her view. With her interest drawn to Superstar Leo, who seemed to be quite the talented figure. Yet after some observations, she relinquished that gaze, now turning back to stare ahead.

She was waiting for it to begin. Her field of vision now focused on what was directly ahead of her, as her ears were now perked up and waited for the call to announce the race. Today's race was five furlongs, barely a kilometre in length. A sprint. As the started pressed a button, as all the gates opened wide in an instant.

Kincsem instantly took off. Her foot pressed itself into the ground before lifting up. The ground groaned at the pressure which she had begun to exert through thrusting herself forward. She had begun to accelerate at a speed faster than those surrounding her, her lead now growing against these opponents.

One hundred metres, and then two hundred had already passed in an instant, yet she had kept up the pace. Her goal today was to complete the race in a sub fifty eight second time. It was ambitious, however goals were made to be such things.

Goals that would hopefully fall into fruition. As she kept her gaze directed ahead. Her acceleration now at terminal velocity, as she sprinted at the maximum speed she could achieve with her current body. Her speed currently just barely below a G1 runner's equivalent. Truly commendable.

With even the scouts raising up to take interest, the announcer in this small track took notice and started to bellow with the mic, as she quickly spouted the current placements, with the lead between Kincsem and Flying Millie still dominant at now five lengths apart from one another. At this pace, breaking into that fifty seven second barrier was attainable.

Her fingers at the cusp of taking hold of it. Yet fate was to toy with her. Fate did not discriminate, and she was eternally unlucky. Lucky for the fact that she had reincarnated as Kincsem. But unlucky of what was to come. As a silence loomed over the track.

It was deadly, the skies above fading, now shrouded in darkness. As Kincsem had begun to be drowned by it. Engulfed.. As the thumping heart of a monster had begun to beat. Its zone taking over and dragging everyone participating into it. A zone. One that only could be attained by those that would be the past of their generation.

But where and who was the one that possessed this zone? It was a question that couldn't be answered at the current moment. As Kincsem could do nothing but try to outrun it, she couldn't even look back to see the face of that figure. It was a race against time itself, to reach the light at the end of the cave.

Behind her, her own competitors had begun to be slaughtered like mere lamb. Their hastened breath and pleas to survive now drowned out by the beating heart of the being, its own breath akin to the roars erupting from the cries of a Demon King coming down to Earth. As it suffocated and killed those that stood in its path.

As the shadow of what it was began to descend onto Kincsem. Distorted and its limbs outstretched, grazing at Kincsem and driving scars into her skin. It was gaining land against Kincsem's dismay, as it had simply begun to accelerate at a level beyond what was capable of the body of an Uma Musume.

Whoever it was, had transcended the limits of what it was to be one. They had reached into the planes of the three goddesses. Their strides now covering an absurd twenty five feet as it began to slash and tear apart the body of Kincsem.

Slowly and surely devouring her, savouring each bite. Tearing into the flesh of her figure, ripping apart her limbs, as she still trudged on forwards. Sweat now pouring down from Kincsem's face in buckets that trickled onto her uniform, her face in despairing fear at who had been unleashed.

But whoever it was had let her scuttle away, before instantly reaching right behind her again, just to break her down further. It would play this game of cat and mouse, till it would corner Kincsem, and then finally devour her whole. As she only took a single glance at the figure behind her.

It was inhuman. Her grin, outstretched and contorted as her eyes drove straight into the soul of Kincsem, as she instantly cowered from who it was. It was someone just like her, someone who should never have belonged in this world.

That person, was Eclipse.

As her mane fluttered in bright chestnut, a narrow streak of white hair strands hanged on the front of her face, as she stared directly at the frail and weak Kincsem. Her clothing was completely gothic in design, as she strutted in a black dress that drooped down to her heels, elegant in design yet laden with black roses and the glimmer of a single ruby pendant that shone through the centre of her chest.

Her body was fair, yet masterfully sculpted by the Goddess of Death herself Ereshkigal. Each muscle built to dominate on the track, with each fibre woven to endure the stresses and complete the body. It was the embodiment of a person who was perfect, yet one who had been corrupted to kill.

As she held onto a reaper's scythe, its blade glistened under the midnight sky, wrapping around the back of Eclipse as she walked towards her. Each step vibrating and echoing through the chasm she had trapped her in, as Eclipse hung the blade at Kincsem's neck. Before striking at her.

One fatal slice. A blow that instantly decapitated Kincsem then and there, as her head had rolled to where Eclipse stood. Her body dropping down to its knees before collapsing, her flesh gnawed at by the figure before Kincsem, bleeding out on full display. Yet with her vision fading, only one thought had come to mind.

Not of acceptance, nor of sorrow. She had no time to contemplate and beg for mercy, as she had already died by the blow inflicted upon her. The only thought that had left her mind was one quote.

"Eclipse First, The rest…Nowhere."
