The girl left after giving Vera the letter. She walked to a corner and whispered, "It's done."
At 8:30 PM, Vera went to Red Maple Woods.
Red Maple Woods was a place on school grounds. There were actually no red maples there, but rather a bamboo forest. It was far from the main school buildings, so at night, the area was usually deserted.
But when Vera arrived today, seven or eight girls were already standing there. As soon as she approached, they surrounded her.
Vera glanced around and saw that all the girls had their faces covered with bandanas. It was impossible to see clearly in the dark, and she couldn't be sure if she recognized anyone in the group.
Before she could even speak, she heard someone shout, "Get her!" Then, several of the girls raised their wooden clubs and charged at Vera.
