After Vera Xavier got Zachary Preston settled, she prepared to leave. She felt a venomous gaze on her, and when she turned her head, she saw Cara Preston standing right behind her. The moment Cara saw Vera looking, she immediately put on a fawning smile.
Vera Xavier felt she should say something to Cara Preston, just to make her "content" to stay with the Preston Family. She leaned in close to Cara's ear and whispered, "Don't think for a second I don't know what you're up to, Cara Preston. There's something you should know. The tables have turned. From now on, if I want you to live, you live! If I want you to die, you die! If you don't believe me, you're welcome to try and find out."
Inwardly, Cara Preston bristled at her words, but she kept her expression docile. "Sister, I truly know I was wrong. Why can't you just believe me?"
Vera Xavier smiled, reaching out to pat Cara's still-bruised cheek. "A dog can't be taught not to eat shit."
