Vera Xavier smiled at the sight. Cara Preston really hadn't disappointed her; she had taken all of Rona Langdon's money. Most likely, she had returned because she didn't dare use the money yet, wanting to wait until the heat died down before taking the cash to live a life of luxury.
Cara Preston had taken the money but hadn't fled immediately. Fundamentally, this was a rather clever move, because if she had run, she would have been considered Rona Langdon's accomplice.
That explained it. So that was why Cara Preston had been so obedient and put on such an act this time. It turned out she'd had an ulterior motive all along.
What a shame. No matter how shrewdly Cara Preston planned, it had all ended up in her hands in the end.
