Oakhaven.
This was Summer Sutton's first winter up north, a world away from Port Sovereign. The cold wasn't Port Sovereign's damp, lingering chill, yet it wasn't piercingly frigid either. Oakhaven's snowy nights were beautiful; under the brilliant city lights, the settled snow glittered like crushed diamonds.
The luxury van pulled to a stop inside an exclusive Oakhaven club.
Summer Sutton tightened her white down jacket, wrapped her scarf more snugly around her neck, and said in a low voice to her manager, Anne Lowell, "Wait for me in the car."
Anne Lowell looked worried. "Are you sure you'll be all right, meeting the Ninth Master alone?"
Summer Sutton nodded. "There's nothing between the Ninth Master and me anymore, but he's the most perfect, most gentlemanly man I've ever met."
Anne Lowell didn't press the issue, just gesturing to her phone. "I'll be right here in the car. Call me anytime."
