Aiden Shaw turned off his phone. He closed his eyes and sat in the car for a moment before starting the engine and driving away.
After leaving the sterile room, Hannah Hale checked on a patient who had just gotten out of surgery before heading back to her office.
She rubbed her aching shoulders as she pushed the door open and walked inside. The office light was on. Morgan Joyce was sitting on the sofa, his head bowed as he dealt with emails on his phone.
"When did you get here?"
Hannah Hale looked at Morgan Joyce, a little surprised. 'It's the middle of the night. Shouldn't he be at home, sleeping?'
At the sound of her voice, Morgan Joyce put his phone away and slowly looked up. His voice was warm and gentle as he said, "I got here a while ago. You probably haven't had dinner yet, have you?"
"I haven't eaten yet, but someone already ordered takeout for me. It should be here soon."
