Seeing Victor Morgan standing beside her, almost frozen stiff, Mrs. Sterling rubbed her forehead. "Take it easy. This is just the beginning. She'll be fine."
It wasn't that Victor Morgan didn't hear his mother-in-law's voice, but his attention was fixed on Jessie Sterling and the doctor nearby. As for what his mother-in-law had said, not a single word registered.
Even after Jessie Sterling was wheeled out of the room and into the OR, Victor Morgan remained in a daze, as if his spirit had followed her inside.
Of course, Mrs. Sterling was worried about her daughter, too. But when she saw Victor Morgan standing anxiously at the OR door—this time, truly as stiff as a board—she couldn't help but feel a flicker of amusement despite her own anxiety.
The operating room doors opened in the early morning. The words "Mother and son are both safe and sound" finally spurred the nearly petrified Victor Morgan into motion.
