Chapter 109: Movie Folder #4 Opened
"Phew~"
The next moment, Jake was back in the real world.
This trip had really taken up a lot of time, but the ending was good.
He had a base, and even unexpectedly acquired a few complications. The only bad thing about that world was probably the desert wasteland environment.
But that was perfect for scientific experiments, so there was no need to worry about harming the natural environment.
Having been away from the real world for so long, Jake even had a strange feeling: which side was reality?
This made him think deeply, but upon reflection, he found it amusing. Why bother about which side was reality? Perhaps both were reality, or perhaps, like in The Truman Show, neither was reality?
As long as he was happy, that was all that mattered.
His feet touched the ground. Unlike the wooden floor of The Princess Diaries or the sandy wasteland of Fury Road, the floor here was hard, smooth tile, but stepping on it gave him a strange sense of security.
It had been a long time since the last cleaning, and the room wasn't too dirty, just covered in another layer of dust.
"It's time to change some furniture," he thought to himself. Perhaps he should develop his presence in the real world a bit, since no matter how well one succeeds in the movie worlds, it's completely invisible in reality.
It's like returning home after years of success, a source of pride for the family; the real world is Jake's hometown, so he wanted to achieve the same.
He straightened his black suit, opened the door, and stepped out of the house, only to find that his neighbors had all changed.
Time had truly passed; a long time had gone by since the invisible man incident.
With a wistful sigh, Jake walked toward the park in front of the house.
A beautiful young woman was strolling through the vast residential park, holding her daughter's hand. They were wrapped in slightly heavy clothing, as it was early winter in this world. Perhaps only Jake could wear the same clothes year-round; after all, the suit's climate control was sufficient even in the Arctic.
Upon seeing Jake, the young woman instinctively paused, especially when he emerged from the supposedly empty house; she became quite wary.
Pulling her daughter behind her, the young woman took two steps back and looked at Jake.
This only made Jake look helpless.
"Ma'am, do I really look like a bad guy?" He prepared to go up and have a proper conversation with her. After all, he was a man who could make an impression with his appearance, especially in the world of Mad Max: Fury Road, where he quickly established authority with various factors.
Environmental factors, resource factors, and force factors were key.
"Oh?" The young woman exclaimed in surprise after Jake spoke, then bowed her head apologetically. "I'm sorry, I was watching a thriller today, and the character was wearing clothes like yours, so… I'm really sorry." She nodded repeatedly in apology.
A thriller?
Jake looked down at his clothes; they did indeed look distinctive. Suddenly, he found it quite amusing. Would this young woman realize that the person standing in front of her had actually done far more than any fictional character? And he could even travel between those movie worlds?
"What's the name of that movie?" Jake asked with interest.
Because he often smiled, he didn't seem as threatening as he could be, though he had indeed eliminated quite a few people.
The young woman pulled her daughter to her side and chatted with Jake cheerfully about the movie she had seen that day, completely without her previous wariness.
The movie was called "Hitman: Agent 47," a story about assassins.
But clearly, Agent 47 was the protagonist; it was puzzling why she had been afraid.
From their initial wariness to their sudden, friendly conversation, it only took a few sentences. It wasn't that Jake was particularly charming, but rather that the young woman was clearly very open. It seemed her previous wariness was just instinctive, like someone startled but actually more nervous than threatening.
"Hitman" was originally a video game, and that was all Jake knew about it.
However, the young woman was chatting happily, perhaps because Jake's outfit really did resemble the character, making her particularly enthusiastic when talking to him.
While talking, she also looked him up and down with curious eyes, as if to say, "Your outfit is really authentic."
By the end, Jake had even gotten to know her, and they had a pleasant conversation.
It had been far too long since he'd had a normal conversation with someone; the experience felt strangely refreshing.
The young woman's name was Sarah White, 26 years old, and the little girl was only 5, named Emma.
He didn't ask about their family situation; after all, the people living in this secluded residential area, besides those like Jake who valued their privacy, had their own stories.
After the conversation, Sarah, holding her daughter's hand, waved goodbye to Jake.
He also headed home; if he was going to properly establish himself in the real world, he needed to get organized.
Coincidentally, he and Sarah were neighbors.
Sarah might find this mysterious neighbor intriguing, while Jake felt slightly concerned. Judging from this young woman's personality, she'd probably be a frequent visitor.
Opening the door, he took out a chair, wiped it clean, and placed it in the yard. Jake then took out his phone and began to research.
He remembered that he was about to access new movies, and this time, returning from the movie world, he could take a look.
Sure enough, when he turned on his phone, a new fourth movie folder opened.
"This is... real action movies!!"
Looking at the newly appeared movies, Jake couldn't help but smile.
"The first movie folder was normal plot-driven movies, the second movie folder had increased stakes, containing some action scenes."
"The third movie folder had even higher stakes, even slightly exceeding that of ordinary people."
"And now, the fourth one—sure enough, the movies that appeared have exceeded the scope of ordinary people! There are always a few enhanced individuals in these movies!"
"Hugh Jackman's Real Steel, Chris Evans's Push, and the most dangerous Resident Evil series."
Jake guessed that this might be the beginning of the enhanced movie worlds?
There were hundreds of science fiction and action movies here, and even some international films from various countries.
It seemed that all the movies that met the power level requirements were included.
The power level here refers to superhuman fighting ability, or advanced technology, but it's low-level; high-level technology is absent, unlike in movies like "Journey to the West."
Even if such technology existed, he wouldn't dare go; going would most likely mean certain death.
Some of these worlds' resources were so alluring that Jake already coveted them and wanted to acquire them!
However, he only thought about it; with his current abilities, he was far from being up to the task. He'd likely be easily defeated by some bosses or protagonists.
He put his phone aside; he wasn't in a hurry to start a new movie. It was best to rest first. Of course, he also felt slightly pressed for time, as there was someone he had to rescue in the Hunger Games world—Katniss.
He casually placed his phone on the table. He had already tested it; if the phone moved more than thirty feet away, it would automatically teleport back to his hand.
Therefore, he was almost never afraid of having his phone stolen or being trapped in danger.
Even if his hand couldn't move, it didn't matter; his phone had a voice assistant. He could simply say the movie he wanted to start or exit the movie app—it was just a matter of speaking.
Jake took out his regular phone from the real world and called a cleaning service.
