Chapter 96 - Chapter 96: The Black Cat

Chapter 96: The Black Cat

Three days passed in the blink of an eye.

It was midday, the sky was blazing, and the sun was scorching.

Jake, Simms, and three android assistants stood in a circle on the lawn.

The three android assistants, dressed in maid uniforms, held large syringes and guarded Jake and Simms.

"Let's begin, Doctor," Jake nodded to Simms, casually drawing a shotgun from behind his back and cocking it with a click.

Simms quietly nodded to indicate that he understood, then he walked forward carrying a silver-white metal box.

In front of him was a simple protective net, electrified with thousands of volts of high voltage, enough to prevent any unforeseen circumstances; at least this preparation would allow them to react in time.

After walking forward, Simms opened the metal box and took out a thin, jet-black cat.

This cat was specially purchased by Simms; after examination, he found it had no genetic diseases and was perfectly healthy. As for why it was so listless, it was probably due to not eating for a long time and being trapped in the metal box.

The black cat, just being carried out, even scratched Simms angrily, but the scratch was weak, leaving only a red mark on his hand.

Simms ignored the cat's struggles, placing it on a platform within the electric fence and binding it completely with energy restraints.

An android carrying a syringe and a small metal box approached. Opening it, she found a small, multi-legged, exoskeleton-less larva, resembling a snake with legs or a strange worm with an unusually long tail.

This was the parasitic larva Simms had engineered.

The larva, previously trapped in the dim space and already too tired to struggle, suddenly sensed the box opening and excitedly tried to escape. But the moment it moved, it was grabbed by a slender, pale hand.

After struggling for a moment, it tried to burrow into the wrist of whoever was holding it and invade their brain through the blood vessels.

But as soon as it moved, thud!

It bumped into something solid.

Because the one holding it was an android assistant, truly made of metal and synthetic materials.

The parasitic larva tried to struggle, but it was powerless against the android's fingers, which were like giant iron pincers. It could only obediently be lifted up and placed on something—

a living, furry creature!

The larva instantly became excited, just as the android loosened her grip.

As soon as the restraint was released, the larva instantly burrowed into the furry creature's ear!

Meow!!!

Under Jake's slightly uncomfortable gaze, the previously listless black cat suddenly perked up, struggling frantically!

But energy restraints could even hold a powerful gun-fu master; what could an ordinary black cat do?

The larva burrowed deeper and deeper into the black cat's left ear, its horrifying, pitiful cries chilling to the bone.

However, the parasitic process was incredibly fast, completed in just two seconds.

The black cat jerked, then slumped listlessly back onto the table, but judging from its constantly moving abdomen, it was still alive.

"I really shouldn't watch such inhumane things," Jake thought, goosebumps still rising all over his body. The thought of those disgusting worms burrowing into his brain from his ear, devouring it, and replacing it was utterly repulsive.

Time ticked by,

and only the black cat remained trapped in the electric fence, not struggling, quietly as if asleep.

Two minutes later,

the black cat opened its eyes, and Jake was certain from those eyes that this cat was completely different.

Like all parasites, the black cat's face split open after its first parasitism, revealing a petal-like face covered in black fur, swaying in the air like octopus tentacles.

"Is this a success?" Jake asked Simms.

"It hasn't learned human language yet, so your commands won't work on it immediately. However, it shouldn't attack you now,"

Simms replied, clearly wanting Jake to conduct the initial test.

After thinking for two seconds, Jake gritted his teeth and said, "Turn off the power to the electric fence," and then went inside.

He wasn't afraid even of parasites infesting humans; what was a cat? How strong could it be?

He stepped into the electric fence, looking at the skinny black cat with its split face, disgusting like a monster from a horror movie.

Jake held a gun in his left hand and tentatively reached out with his right.

When his right hand was about eight inches from the black cat's tentacle, the tentacle retracted, standing still for two or three seconds as if it really was a kitten, before slowly wrapping around him.

"This feeling..." Jake felt a strange sensation on his hand. Who would have thought that tentacles that could cut through steel like butter were actually as soft as tongues?

"But this appearance is really disgusting." Jake shook his hand, and the black cat parasite immediately retracted its tentacles. He had maintained control throughout the entire process.

"Can I teach it to talk?" Jake turned to Simms and asked.

"Certainly," Simms adjusted his glasses, walked away, and returned shortly with a laptop.

Because the safety of a parasite after its first infestation was uncertain, only the vast grassland of this estate could provide the best containment area.

For the next two hours, Jake witnessed the learning capability of the parasite firsthand, even though it was parasitizing a cat.

"Hello," it said, its voice harsh and high-pitched, a female voice.

"Could you retract those strange tentacles?" Jake pointed to the black cat's still-blooming tentacles.

"Of course," the black cat obediently retracted its tentacles, and a gaunt black cat reappeared.

But this black cat was very different from before; simply put, it had an air of authority?

"Will you listen to me now?" Jake asked tentatively.

"It's instinct," the black cat nodded, then actually licked its paws.

Talking to a black cat felt strangely surreal.

"What if I command you not to eat people?"

"Then I won't."

Looking at the black cat's decisive answer, Jake felt something was off—the strangeness in the cat's tone.

After releasing the energy restraints, Jake opened his arms, and the black cat obediently climbed onto him. However, recalling the disgusting sight of the black cat's split face before, as a man who judges by appearances, Jake felt he had to set a strict rule: "No more transforming into your parasite form." He didn't expect a black cat to fight for him anyway.

Since the experiment was a success, he'd keep it as a pet for now.

"I understand,"

the cat agreed, and Jake chose to believe it, because the parasite wouldn't lie, at least not at this stage; it shouldn't understand the concept of lying yet.

"Simms, I feel like this black cat is a bit strange,"

Simms said, seemingly anticipating Jake's question. "It's just a small experiment out of personal interest."

"An experiment? What experiment?"

Simms didn't answer, but instead reopened the computer and showed Jake its contents.

The content was mainly about teaching English, nothing special, but it also included articles about personality and numerous videos of people.

Without exception, all the people in these videos were dominant, authoritative women...
