Chapter 95 - Chapter 95: Experiment

Chapter 95: Experiment

"Um, Dr. Simms, could you tell me about the progress of your research now?"

Jake glanced tentatively at Dr. Simms. Fortunately, the scientist was very compliant and quickly stopped his research after Jake made the request.

"Over the past few days, I have fully analyzed the structural characteristics of w-a0507."

"w-a0507?"

"The experimental material you brought back, boss."

Didn't I tell you this thing is called a parasite? Scientists always like to give things names that only they understand.

Luckily, Jake doesn't have OCD and won't argue with him about this.

He waved his hand and said, "No need to tell me about the characteristics, I wouldn't understand anyway. Just tell me if your research is successful."

It seemed that Jake's suggestion was exactly what Simms wanted to hear; any extra explanation was a waste of time in his eyes.

"This is a peculiar cellular organism. After research, I found that their cellular activity is about 10 times that of starfish, meaning they can regenerate quickly even after being dissected."

Simms pointed to the unfortunate, heavily dissected parasite, dressed in a police uniform—it must be Mr. A. "He has already lost two kilograms of flesh, but with sufficient nutrition, it has all grown back."

"Wait a minute," Jake gestured for him to stop, then asked, "Sufficient nutrition? As far as I know, they prefer to eat human flesh, right?"

"It's just a matter of needing some simple trace elements and protein. I have many ways to create substances that meet those needs."

Just thinking about the body nutrition products Simms creates makes him quite impressive. In the real world, they would be muscle-building miracle supplements, crushing all protein powders!

"Continue," looking at the pitiful Mr. A who could still regenerate after being sliced. Didn't this mean he would be dissected for the rest of his life? Jake gestured for Simms to continue.

"Their memory method is very interesting. Their body cells simulate the brain of the parasitized organism, temporarily acquiring that brain cell structure themselves. This allows them to remember many things quickly, and even if their brains are injured, they can recover rapidly because they don't actually have centralized brains."

"Therefore, I programmed their genes and added some modifications to ensure that each of their cells has imprinted memory, making them loyal to you."

"Sounds good," Jake nodded.

"I'm sorry, boss, I obtained your body cells without your permission beforehand."

"What? Where did you get them?" Jake was taken aback. In various movie universes, when a mad scientist obtains body cells, countless clones of oneself await.

"The hair from your bed."

Hearing this, Jake turned to look at the two somewhat expressionless android assistants. They must have taken it while making his bed. But thinking about it carefully, he had authorized them to help Simms complete the experiment, so he couldn't blame them.

"This is a one-time exception," Jake said. "And you're not allowed to use my genes for any unauthorized research. All research related to me or people connected to me must be approved."

"Yes, boss."

The matter was dropped, and Simms continued his explanation.

"Any results now?"

Simms nodded without speaking, taking a glass vial from a box with a silvery-white metallic sheen. Inside the vial was a small piece of tissue.

Boneless, soft tissue.

"Now, it's very receptive to you." Simms said, trying to reach into the vial with tweezers to pick up the small piece of tissue.

The previously quiet little piece of tissue suddenly sprang up, transforming into something resembling a small spider. With a swift movement of its two appendages, it nearly severed the tweezers!

"A miniature parasite?"

"It's a failed experiment I created, only used to provide data." Simms said, picking up a large set of forceps from the side and ignoring the little piece of tissue's resistance, pulling it out.

Although the little piece of tissue tried to resist, it was no match for the tool.

Under Jake's incredulous gaze, Simms placed the small piece of flesh in front of him.

The distance between them was only ten centimeters.

Simms moved the small piece of tissue closer, but the previously aggressive tissue remained motionless.

Closer still…

nothing happened.

Finally, the entire piece of tissue was placed on Jake, and still nothing occurred.

"Can I command it?" Jake asked, looking at the tiny piece of tissue on his body, smaller than a fingernail. He now believed Simms's words that it wouldn't attack him.

"No."

"Why?"

"Because it doesn't have an auditory system, nor has it learned human language, so it can't interpret your commands."

Hearing this, Jake nodded in understanding. "I see. But when will you be able to create a complete one?"

"Based on our current understanding, to completely replicate this creature, we need extremely advanced cloning technology, and it must be a complete organism during parasitism."

In other words, directly using a small piece of tissue to parasitize is useless; only an unparasitized larva can work.

Nodding, Jake didn't say much. He didn't understand scientific research very well and just waited for Dr. Simms to explain.

"I've arranged an experiment to parasitize a person and see if they can develop loyalty to you and obey orders."

"Wait, you said a human?" Jake was about to nod in agreement but was suddenly startled. Although he killed people, he was still unwilling to conduct human experiments.

If he could obtain cloning technology in the future, this problem would be easily solved.

"That's right," Dr. Simms nodded blankly.

"Let's change it. As long as it's a live animal experiment, isn't that fine?" Jake carefully searched his mind for animal images and finally settled on "cats, dogs, and mice."

Lab mice had always been the biggest contributors to scientific research.

Dogs and cats were good because these two creatures were easy to obtain, providing useful contrast, and it was better than experimenting on humans.

Most importantly, even if the created parasite couldn't be controlled, it wouldn't be too dangerous. If it parasitized a tiger and went out of control, Jake wasn't sure if he could even protect himself.

"We'll use cats," Jake decided before Simms could speak. He knew the significance of the experiment and took the liberty of making the decision.

"How long will it take?"

"The experiment is complex, but three days should be enough," Simms replied matter-of-factly. Perhaps in his view, experimenting on humans was no different from experimenting on cats.

After all, it was impossible to predict what kind of creature Jake would need parasites for in the future. Ideally, he would test every currently known creature at least once, so he could obtain all the data.

During those three days, while Dr. Simms was immersed in his intensive research, Jake was also contemplating his next destination world.

"If the parasite experiment fails, I won't be able to use them in dangerous worlds." If authorities in some world discovered the parasites, military forces might be deployed against him within hours; he wasn't prepared to risk that.

"New movie worlds will be available soon. I'll enter another world and establish a major safe haven..."

He quickly made his choice.
