Chapter 6 - Meeting the Devil Again

Ouch, that hurts! I was attacked by something unknown while meditating (sleeping).

I opened my eyes dazedly, and a serious face appeared in my field of vision.

"The old devil!!" I couldn't help exclaiming.

"What? What did you say?" Teacher Xiu, who had just come back, looked at me with a gloomy gaze.

"Ah, nothing. Welcome back, Teacher Xiu. I missed you so much!"

"Really? Then what's this about the old devil~"

Sweat broke out on my forehead. "Oh, I just had a nightmare. I dreamed that many devils pounced on me. It's not about you. How could someone as kind as you be called a devil! Hehe"

"Oh, really?" Teacher Xiu looked at me suspiciously.

"I told you to meditate here, but you're sleeping. You're really something. In my name, Xi Yu. Xiu, heed my call. Appear, my servant—Light Tiger. Elian, immediately go out and run."

"No, teacher. I've been meditating hard recently. I just fell asleep for a little while because I was too tired." I couldn't tell him I was meditating while lying down. Who would believe that sleeping can help practice?

"Really? Then I need to check. Come here"

"Oh!" I walked up to Teacher Xiu.

Teacher Xiu took out a magic stone for identifying magic power (a type of magic crystal, a primary magic measuring stone specially used to detect magic power) from his dimensional space (a space that can store items, usable by intermediate mages and above. The capacity depends on the mage's magic power) and handed it to me.

"Chant with me. In my name, light elements, heed my call. Gather into the object in front of you."

"In my name, light elements, heed my call. Gather into the object in front of you."

As I chanted the spell, the light elements gathered in my eyebrows, merged with the light element energy ball in my body, and then flowed into the magic stone in my hand. The magic stone emitted a faint halo, which gradually intensified. I continuously input the magic power in my body into the magic stone until the input magic power balanced with the magic power condensed from my eyebrows. The radiance of the magic stone illuminated the entire room clearly, almost as effective as my Illumination.

Teacher Xiu was stunned. "You really didn't slack off. I didn't expect your magic power to have reached the level of a primary mage in just three months. It seems you meditated for at least 18 hours every day. No, even meditating 24 hours a day wouldn't have such a good effect."

On the continent, under normal circumstances, even the most diligent cultivator would need to meditate for more than a year to go from not knowing any magic to becoming a primary mage.

"It seems you are really a genius for practicing light magic!"

"Of course! I'm extremely smart! Hahaha~~" I couldn't help feeling proud.

"What are you proud of? This is nothing. It depends on your performance in the future. What's the use of just having magic power? You're useless if you can't apply it." Seeing me proud, Teacher Xiu immediately poured cold water on me.

Teacher Xiu sent the Light Tiger back. I secretly wiped the sweat from my brow. I finally passed this test. It seems my sleep wasn't in vain. Hehe. (These days, I've been using lying down meditation as sleep. It feels much more comfortable than sleeping before.)

"It's getting late. Hurry home. Tomorrow we'll start learning primary light magic. Remember to bring the primary light magic book I gave you."

"Okay. Goodbye, Teacher Xiu." I ran out of the classroom like a gust of wind.

Looking at my leaving figure, Teacher Xiu showed a faint smile. 'It seems this child is very suitable for learning light magic.'

...

"Good morning, Teacher Xiu!" Because I successfully completed the task yesterday, thinking I wouldn't have to run anymore, I was in a particularly good mood and came early today.

"You're quite early today. Did you bring the book?"

"Yes."

"Good. Today we'll start learning primary light magic. Many intermediate and advanced light magics are evolved from primary magic, so learning primary magic is very important. Today we'll learn the first magic—Light Shield."

"Light Shield?"

"Yes. Having learned the basic magic knowledge, you should know that primary and intermediate light magics are basically used for defense and recovery. And Light Shield is the most basic defensive magic in light magic."

"In my name, Xi Yu. Xiu, light elements, heed my call. Gather in front of me and block all evil!" A faint transparent halo appeared in front of Teacher Xiu. "Light Shield can block the attacks of general primary magic. The duration depends on the caster's magic power. Come and try."

"Oh! In my name, Elian Rayner, great light elements, gather in front of me and block all evil!"

"No, you chanted it wrong. It should be 'heed my call.' Ah, how could..."

A thicker Light Shield than Teacher Xiu's appeared in front of me, cutting off Teacher Xiu's words.

"This is... Light Shield??? No. Light Shield is an all-around defensive magic." The invigilators discussed for a while. The teacher in the middle said: "This student, please explain the characteristics of your magic."

"Okay. This magic is my original creation based on Light Shield and Light Prism. By combining the two characteristics of defense and reflection, these two primary light defensive magics have been fused and compressed. Now it can block level 6 non-all-around offensive magic."

All the invigilators looked at each other in surprise. Finally, they reached a conclusion—genius. (Fusing magic itself is very difficult, especially fusing single-element magic. They were naturally surprised that I could fuse two primary magics to achieve the effect of advanced magic.)

Haha, passed another level.

I walked out of the academy with excitement (because there were many people, the remaining two exams would be held tomorrow). It was so simple! Haha, thinking of the surprised expressions of the invigilators, I wanted to laugh.

As soon as I walked out of the academy gate, I saw Teacher Xiu. Seeing his anxious expression, I felt for the first time that Teacher Xiu was so lovely.
