Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Little Black

When Akari was asleep, she felt a murderous intent rushing toward her. Akari couldn't even open her eyes; she drew her sword and swung it with all her strength. When she opened her eyes, she saw a small demon dying in front of her.

"I underestimated you..." The demon said. Akari thought she had too. She felt her barrier, and it wasn't broken or damaged; the only opportunity the demon could have entered was when she arrived. Akari didn't feel his presence; probably the demon was very good at camouflage, but he wasn't very strong. That's why she was still alive.

Akari moved to him and was about to give him the final blow when she suddenly felt that the evil energy of the demon was being consumed. Akari looked behind her, alarmed, and that the black egg was absorbing the demonic energy. Its shell was shiny.

She was astonished. What the hell was that?! Akari watched as the black egg consumed the whole energy of the demon until only his bones remained. Then, the black egg returned to calm, as if it had never been woken up.

Akari was frozen until she felt that the black egg didn't show any more signs of life and sighed in relief. Akari clenched her teeth and walked slowly toward the black egg, touching it slightly with her hand. She felt a slight increase of demonic energy. If she hadn't felt his energy before, she couldn't have figured it out.

Akari thought that it was a way to increase his own energy, because he had almost none. But Akari had never heard about it. She didn't know if it was a good or bad sign. However, the black egg hadn't done anything against her, so she couldn't refuse to help just because it was strange.

Akari felt a headache, but finally she decided to help. After all, she already felt affection for the egg, so she couldn't abandon it or kill it. With this in mind, Akari made several preparations. First, she built a barrier similar to Mount Hakurei in structure. Thanks to this mountain, Akari had many paths; she left some of them without protection so that some demons could sneak into the mountain.

She installed several traps, too. The idea was that the demons would be injured by the traps, and when they arrived at the black egg, he could consume their energy without danger. She made two barriers with her blood around the black egg in case the traps weren't enough.

Afterwards, Akari went to search for demons outside, and she lured them to the traps in the mountain. At the beginning, she failed because the traps were either too weak or too strong, but finally, she found the best way to capture them. In these days, the black egg had become accustomed to this hunting and its energy had increased, but only a little. Akari wondered how much energy he needed to break the shell.

Soon, she couldn't think about it anymore. The time was up, and she had to leave. The black egg would have to be alone, and she was worried, so she decided to leave more protection parchment just in case. Also, she decided to change his nickname because 'little snake' sounded a little aggressive, so she decided to call him. Little Black.

"Little Black, I'm leaving. Behave well". Akari couldn't help looking at him again. She only hoped he would stay safe until she came back.

Akari, Inuyasha and the others heard about a woman with a baby who was killing monks. When they arrived at another attacked temple, the survivors told them that they were searching the boundary between this world and the other world and the baby had been split in half by the monk.

Then, when they sensed a great evil energy, they came across Hakudoushi, who told them that the fragment was in that place. After that, they continued to follow his movements, and thanks to Sesshōmaru, who revived a demon that had been decapitated by Hakudoushi, understood that the fragment was in Inuyasha's father's grave.

When Akari saw that the demon came to life, she had an idea. Kikyou would appear soon, and she had no more time to think. So she would make sure to at least have a way to revive her, leaving a sliver of her spiritual power. It couldn't be noticed by Kikyou and the world consciousness either.

There was only one opportunity when she could do that.

They quickly found the demon birds and Hijiri, who was Kikyou, when Inuyasha suspected she could be Kikyou because of her arrow piercing through the barrier of Hakudosuhi. Akari quickly headed toward a barrier familiar to her. She found Kikyou in the waterfall.

Akari left her sword on the ground and jumped into the water before the Shikigami could say anything to her.

"Will you save her?" Asked one of them.

"So, you brought me here to keep looking at her or what?" Akari clicked her tongue and took a deep breath before sinking into the water. Akari used all this spiritual power and touched her wound with the intention to heal it. When the poison was increased, and she used her maximum power, she took advantage of that second to leave a blade of her spiritual power in her soul.

Akari sighed in relief when it worked. She grabbed Kikyou and pulled her out of the water. Akari was wringing out her clothes when she heard.

"Why did you save me?" Kikyou, who had woken up, asked.

"You don't care, do you?" Akari answered.

Kikyou furrowed her brow, but she finally said.

"I won't thank you".

"I expect that". Akari took her sword and told her.

"Wait here for Inuyasha. You should at least see him. He has suffered a lot for you these days". Kikyou looked at her, but Akari just walked into the forest and said.

"He has never given up on finding you".

Akari avoided the main path and left the barrier. She did as much as possible for them; if they didn't collaborate, it was not her business.
