Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Into the Abyss

The morning before the final battle, Akari left her home. She said goodbye to her brother, who didn't notice anything, and told him that she would return soon. On the other hand, her mother looked at her and said.

"Akari, should your mother be concerned?" Akari was surprised for a second, thinking her mother was a really intelligent woman. But she shook her head and smiled, saying.

"No, mother. I will return. I promise." Akari was telling the truth; she definitely wouldn't die, and she will return.

Then she jumped into the well one last time.

Akari, Inuyasha, Sango, and Miroku entered the new body of Naraku—a spider. When they entered his body, Naraku attacked and separated them. He created the perfect moment for her to be left alone. Sango and Miroku were together, and when Inuyasha and Akari were attacked again, Inuyasha was separated from her slightly. Naraku opened a hole in the ground. Inuyasha tried to reach her, but Akari avoided his hand.

She did that not just because she didn't want to be alone with Inuyasha, but also because she needed to see Naraku.

Akari followed the presence of the Shikon Jewel and arrived at the center where Naraku was.

"Welcome." Naraku said.

"Are you waiting for me?" Akari asked.

"Yeah, but first, we need to talk without interruptions." Naraku created a different space surrounding them and the Shikon Jewel.

Akari couldn't feel the presence of the world's consciousness, so she asked without worry.

"What did you mean when you told me about destiny?" Naraku chuckled and said.

"You know, I never considered you a real enemy. Compared to Kikyou, you didn't deserve my concern. But I haven't since I noticed I was wrong." Akari stayed silent.

"Perhaps, it was when I was about to complete the Jewel, and I wondered what would happen after killing you all? So I noticed that you resisted the seal Magatsuhi wanted to give you."

"How come you had so much strength? When you never used it? It was then that I started to think that you might have tricked everyone. You tricked even your friends, hiding who you really were and what you knew behind the great figure of Kikyo. You were amazing. I always thought humans were good at lying, but you exceeded my expectations." Akari chuckled.

"You should know better than anyone how far and how cruel humans can be. After all, you are half-human." Naraku's face changed, and Akari continued.

"For your own good, I hope you're not showing this conversation to my friends, because it could end really badly for both of us." Naraku said sarcastically.

"Don't worry, I know that something is watching you, I don't want to be involved" Akari nodded while she felt the soul of Kagome releasing from the seal.

"Second, undo your illusions."

Naraku looked at her and realized the seal was broken.

"Okay." Then Akari asked.

"I don't understand why you continue with all of this. The Shikon Jewel didn't grant your wish. Why do you continue when you know it doesn't matter? The Jewel only wants to be used for eternity. The Jewel only wanted to be used for eternity. Don't you want to escape from your supposed destiny?" Naraku burst out laughing.

"I didn't think you were so naive, do you think we can escape? Until now, everything that the Shikon Jewel had created many wars to continue existing. Do you think that's a coincidence?" Akari shook her head.

"I know it isn't, it might sound stupid to you that someone like me believes in breaking her destiny. When it is better to accept it, but I prefer that my body and soul be torn apart trying than to obey." Akari thought it was time and told Naraku.

"Call Byakuya, he's already obtained Inuyasha's Meidō Zangetsuha, isn't he?" Naraku didn't answer, but Kyakuya appeared and cut her back. Akari didn't avoid it.

"The time is up. We will see if you can break your destiny or not." Naraku opened the barrier, and Akari saw Inuyasha.

"Akari, are you okay?" Inuyasha asked, startled.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Akari stayed behind while Inuyasha and Naraku fought.

Sesshōmaru arrived soon and used Bakusaiga to destroy Naraku's body. When it started to fall, they realized it was above Madame Kaede's village.

They got outside, and Akari shot at the Shikon Jewel. She purified the demonic energy and the poison around the village.

Naraku's body disappeared and he remained above the well.

"I made a wish for the Shikon Jewel. When I die, it will be accomplished." He gave a last gaze to Akari and smiled, hair-raisingly. Then he disappeared.

Miroku and Sango immediately looked at the Miroku's Wind Tunnel. It had disappeared. Akari went backward silently, and when Inuyasha and the others turned around to see her, they saw the Meidō Zangetsuha opening behind Akari.

Black hands emerged from it and grabbed her. Inuyasha ran toward her, trying to reach her.

"Akari!" Akari seemed calm and said.

"Guys, I'll be gone for a while. I'll be fine. Wait here." Then she was dragged into theMeidō Zangetsuha.

Inuyasha tried to use his sword to open another Meidō Zangetsuha, but the sword suddenly returned to its original form.

"Tessaiga! What happened?" He couldn't understand. He didn't know it was Akari's fault. She needed to be alone at least one day, so she had purified Inuyasha's sword so it couldn't transform.
