Neal's heart skipped a beat. He hadn't expected his father to bring up this matter the moment he arrived. For an instant, his thoughts tangled together, and he could only respond stiffly, "Father, I just came over. I don't understand what you mean by that."
Philip shot him a sharp look, his gaze heavy with displeasure. Of all his children, this eldest son was the most slippery. He didn't believe for a second that Sapphire had gone back without saying anything. This kind of feigned ignorance only made him more annoyed. Before he could speak again, Elizabeth's sleepy voice cut in.
"Father, why did you ask sister-in-law to call me over so late?" Elizabeth asked as she entered. She sat down beside Vanessa, rubbed her eyes hard, and let out a long yawn.
Vanessa elbowed her lightly and lowered her voice. "Just sit and listen. Don't talk nonsense."
Elizabeth looked confused, but she nodded obediently and fell silent.
