Chapter 44 - The Day He Caught a Dragon

Ichigo's eyes were bigger than the lake itself as he stood on the wooden dock, tiny hands gripping Haru's fingers tight. It was the last full day of their cabin getaway, the sun high and golden, water sparkling like scattered diamonds. The little rowboat bobbed gently, waiting for its crew.

"Papa! We go catch dragon now?" Ichigo bounced on his toes, black wavy hair flopping, bright brown eyes shining with pure four-year-old belief. He'd been talking about it all morning—this "dragon" he'd spotted yesterday, a big shadow under the water near the reeds.

Haru crouched, soft smile on his tired face. "Yeah, buddy. Captain Ichigo's dragon hunt starts now."

Chris knelt too, light brown hair messy from wind, hazel eyes playful. "Co-captain Chris reporting for duty. Got the net ready?"

Ichigo squealed, clutching his plastic fishing net like a sword. "Yes! Dragon no escape!"

They climbed in careful—Haru steadying the boat, Chris lifting Ichigo to the middle seat. Oars in water, Haru rowed slow, lake calm and quiet. Birds called overhead, fish jumped occasional.

Ichigo leaned over edge, pointing excited. "There! Shadow! Big one!"

Haru followed his finger—sunlight playing tricks, but a large carp swam lazy under surface, scales flashing. Perfect "dragon."

"Look at that beauty," Chris whispered dramatic. "Scales shining—definitely a lake dragon. Sneaky fella."

Ichigo's face lit pure wonder. "He friendly?"

Haru nodded. "Think so. Let's say hi."

They drifted close. Chris dipped net gentle—more show than catch. The fish swirled, tail flicking, "escaping" with a splash that sprayed them light.

Ichigo shrieked joy. "He swim fast! Dragon power!"

Chris laughed, wiping water from face. "Strong one! But we saw him—victory!"

Haru rowed circle slow, letting Ichigo "track" more shadows—logs "dragon tails," lily pads "nests." Every find met cheers, high-fives.

"Best adventure ever!" Ichigo declared, leaning Haru for hug. "Papa and Chris best hunters!"

Haru's heart swelled, protective warmth deep. Chris's eyes met his—same feeling, love big.

Back shore, picnic lunch—sandwiches, fruit, juice boxes. Ichigo recounted "dragon chase" nonstop, arms waving. Nap under tree followed—kid out fast, dino clutched.

Haru and Chris sat close, feet in water. "His face..." Chris said soft. "Pure magic."

Haru arm around him. "Yeah. Moments like this—worth everything."

Afternoon more fun: rock skipping (Ichigo's "splashes" counted), stick boat races, leaf crown for "Dragon King Ichigo."

Evening fire pit—s'mores sticky, stories wild. Ichigo's favorite retold: "And dragon say thank you for no catch! He my friend now!"

Bedtime hugs extra—Ichigo whispering, "Love cabin. Love dragon day."

Door closed, cabin hushed. Haru and Chris porch, stars bright, wine sipped slow.

"That adventure..." Chris said, leaning Haru. "His joy— is best thing ever."

Haru pulled close. "Yeah. Our little family—perfect."

Warmth sparked—Chris tilting up, lips soft. Haru kissed back deep, hands waist, pulling flush. Tongues brushed urgent, breaths quick.

Inside bedroom, door shut soft. Shirts shed slow—Chris's tee lifted, Haru's button-up unbuttoned teasing. Skin met hot, slim pressing medium.

Haru's mouth neck—kissing slow, nipping gentle. Chris arched, gasp breathy, grinding instinctive.

Pants undone impatient, pushed away. Bare, sweat-slick. Bodies aligned—Haru's hand wrapping firm, stroking rhythm rolls. Chris bucked, moans soft, legs tight.

Haru's free hand traced thigh, deepening friction. Pleasure coiled intense—eyes locked, hazel joyful, brown full love. Whispers: "His adventure," Chris panted; "Ours forever," Haru husky.

Climax shared—Chris tensing beautiful, release crashing muffled cry. Haru followed, shuddering deep.

Tangled after, breaths evening. Chris smiled lazy. "Dragon day perfect end."

Haru kissed temple. "With you—always."

Morning pack-up bittersweet—Ichigo sad leave "dragon lake," but promised return. Drive home scenic, memories bright.

Ichigo's favorite moment etched—adventure pure, family love big.
