'In a devastated landscape, dismembered corpses lay strewn across the ground, most of them mutilated beyond recognition, a gruesome mix of humans and wild animals. A girl ran desperately, dodging through the shattered remains of walls as a chilling howl echoed behind her. Her eyes fixed on a spot, where a pack of wolf-like creatures were savagely attacking a group of humans. Suddenly, she tripped and fell, tumbling down a steep hill, her body rolling helplessly until she crashed into a rock, the impact jarring her senses. Dazed and disoriented, she struggled to focus, her vision blurring as she heard the haunting howl of a beast. She forced her eyes open, and a massive wolf-like creature loomed over her, its eyes piercing, yet it didn't attack. Instead, it vanished, leaving her bewildered and confused.
A handsome, eerie teen boy appeared, his lips curled into a faint, unsettling smile as he offered her his hand. The girl took it, and he pulled her up, his grip cold and unyielding. "I will always protect you," he whispered, his voice dripping with an unsaid threat.
The girl's smile faltered as she gazed down in horror, the boy's hand buried deep within her belly, his fangs elongated, and he sank them into her neck. She stood frozen, her eyes wide with terror, as he yanked his hand free, her heart still beating in his grasp. He morphed into a monstrous creature, it devoured her heart, unleashing a deafening roar which shook the mountains, as it pounced on her lifeless form.'
Rin jolted awake, her bed drenched in sweat, her heart racing with a primal fear. The images lingered, haunting her, refusing to fade. She knew it couldn't be just a dream – it could be a memory, a dark twisted recollection of something that had happened before and could happen to her in the future. Dread filled her as she hoped she wouldn't come across any of the scenes or the person.
"Why do I keep seeing this?" she thought. "Wouldn't it be better to dream of something else? Like having a normal life... fuck silly with someone I like. Why this same boring nightmare every time?"
A cold snort interrupted her thoughts. "You sure sleep like a pig."
Rin's eyes widened as she saw the figure staring coldly back at her. Greenish-black hair, jet-blue eyes, cute, adorable, and handsome – every girl's heartthrob. But to Rin, he was her worst nightmare come true. He was the exact replica of the one in her nightmare who always ended up killing and consuming her.
This figure was obviously Kai
'Could it be? This is that mysterious masked figure,' she thought, her mind racing. It all clicked now – the reason he called her "prey". He was the bigger monster, not a savior.
Her mind went into a frenzy of thought and unanswered questions her vision blurred, and she fainted again.
He just stared at her with an unreadable expression on his face. Suddenly his phone buzzed in a moment he whipped out his phone and placed it on his ear and spoke calmly. "Fang here, what's the situation?"
The person on the other end chuckled. "Just some routine check how is the blessing." Kai rolled his eyes and glanced at the unconscious Rin. "She is weird."
"Awww don't tell me you are already falling for her seriously if you do then–" The caller teased
"Cut the crap Jace I haven't got all the time in the world."
"Hey are you stupid we aren't supposed to call each other by our real names." The caller who was named Jace yelled.
Kai sighed, " Seriously no one knows you who would even care. By the way what is even your mission."
Jace chuckled "It is classified so I can't tell you, sorry. But I really want to know what this girl looks like so do you mind sending me a photo of her? Don't worry I won't tell anyone."
"No!" Kai immediately refused. " Look I am busy. Don't bother me with your nonsense talks, do you think every girl needs to be tainted by you."
Jace laughter echoed from the phone. "Idiot!" Kai snorted after hanging up.
Kai dropped his phone, his eyes flickering to Rin as he poured himself a glass of water. The dim sunlight filtering through the window highlighted the sharp angles of his face. He approached Rin, took a sip, and then suddenly emptied the glass on her face, snapping her out of her endless nap.
Rin shot out of bed, panting with rage, her heart still reeling from the nightmare that had plagued her sleep. "What the heck, seriously!" she yelled, her voice hoarse from sleep. But she quickly quieted down as she stared at Kai, fear and panic visible in her eyes. _It's not a nightmare; he's really here._
Rin, as if possessed, charged at Kai like a maniac. She reached out to grab him, but he vanished from sight, causing her to fall. He now sat on her bed, his expression unreadable. She grabbed the water jar and hurled it at Kai's head, but it missed again as he easily avoided it. She picked up a cup and smashed it into pieces; the glass shard pierced her hand, but she didn't care. Kai's eye twitched.
"I won't let you kill me!" Rin yelled as she swung again, her hands covered in blood. Kai caught her arm and slammed her to the wall. Rin struggled futilely; Kai was as sturdy as a mountain as he held her in place. His eyes suddenly turned cold and bloodthirsty, causing Rin to freeze in fright. His eyes revealed intense hunger, bloodlust, and untamed madness. His jet-blue eyes became much darker, resembling blood as his stared intently at her bloody palm as if hypnotized. Rin shuddered as she struggled to breathe.
Kai lowered his head, groaning softly. Rin stood frozen, not daring to attempt escape. Kai sighed and slowly let go. Rin slumped to the ground, still looking at Kai in daze.
Kai ignored her and walked away. As he reached the entrance, he stopped, his voice monotone. "Clean up and come downstairs. I'll be waiting." Without looking back, he left.
Rin, still shocked and afraid, curiously looked at her injured palm, only to find it already healed – no scars, no blood. It was as if she was never injured. She quickly cleaned up the mess she made and hurriedly left the room, not daring to anger him further.
She climbed down the stairs and saw Kai seated at a middle-sized table, having lunch. The aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, making her stomach twinge with hunger. 'Did he call me down here to have lunch – with him?' Kai merely looked in her direction, snapping her out of her thoughts, and she walked briskly to the dining room and stood.
Kai stared at her, his expression unreadable as Rin quickly lowered her head to avoid his gaze. He focused on his food, his ears twitching as he turned to Rin, his eyes stern. "Did you do what I asked?" he said.
Rin was confused at first but quickly recalled that he asked her to clean up before coming downstairs. She lowered her head, not just from fear this time but from sheer embarrassment as she hadn't taken a bath since the attack on her, which had been several days ago.
Her body must have stunk so badly, she thought.
But Kai's chilling voice stopped her. "Sit, eat first, then go." Rin quickly sat, looking at the table surrounded with food. A drool almost escaped her lips as she dug in right away, her hunger taking over.
Kai's eyebrows creased as he saw her, a little sense of confusion appearing on his cold, delicate face. Rin, realizing she was being watched, couldn't care less as she stuffed meat and steamed buns into her mouth without stopping, like a starved bull.
Except that she hadn't truly eaten for several days.
Kai wiped his mouth with a damp wipe and tossed one to Rin, who quickly caught it. He carried most of the empty plates in one hand as if they weighed nothing. "we're leaving the next day. Clean up, and I am sure you don't expect me to tell you everything." He said coldly, and Rin nodded even though he didn't look back and continued eating.
After eating, Rin carefully took the empty plate to the sink and washed it. The sound of running water filled the quiet kitchen. She went upstairs to her room, locked the door, and went to her wardrobe. The clothes were neatly folded inside, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of surprise and curiosity. 'Did he actually get these for me as well?' she thought.
She took one of the clothes and placed it on the bed. The fabric was soft and smooth beneath her fingertips. She stripped off her clothes and stepped into the bathroom. The cool air hit her skin as she reached for the shower.
Hours passed by.
The room shook as a Kai pounded his fist continously into the wall creating a large hole on the concrete wall l. Anger and frustration were etched on his face. "I almost killed her and lost my mission," he growled. Kai clucthed his head in pain, his eyes closed as if trying to contain a beast within. He opened his eyes, and a flash of red light flickered in the depths of his gaze. He picked up his phone only to hang up, tossing it onto his bed.
"idiot!" He snorted angrily.
"I have to shorten my time here," he muttered to himself.
_This is frustrating i don't think I can hold on. I wonder why the clan master wanted me to take as much time as I could. Well, if this goes on, the only predator she might end up having will be me. I have to talk to the clan master as soon as possible. _
Rin stared silently at the ceiling, her mind racing with thoughts of Aunt Elara. She wondered how she was doing, and worry crept into her eyes. The soft hum of the air conditioner and the occasional chirp of a bird outside filled the quiet room. 'I wonder how Aunt Elara is doing now,' Rin thought worriedly. Ever since the attack, she never came back. Just before panic crept in, she quickly brushed it off. 'No need to worry, Aunt Elara is strong – but isn't this person strong too?' Worry flashed in her eyes once again. 'Elara, please be safe.'
Time passed by quickly and dawn came.
