1973. Siberian Base — the birthplace of mutant evolution.
This base was like a small city. All kinds of research projects were proceeding in an orderly fashion. Countless mutants lived here, leading peaceful lives while cooperating with scientists to enhance their mutant abilities.
At this moment, in a luxurious room at the top of the base, mutants led by Emma Frost, the White Queen, were seated around a specially made metal round table.
At the center of the table, a three-dimensional image was projected into the air.
This was the latest technology developed by the Mutant Evolution House — holographic projection.
"I still haven't found my King, Lancelot," Emma Frost said softly, glancing at Sebastian Shaw, the Black King, seated below her. She shook her head slightly.
"Bradley, how's the status of global surveillance?" Shaw asked, turning to the man beside him.
Three years later, the Mutant Evolution House had developed a brainwave amplification device specifically suited for Bradley. Through it, Bradley could control nearly all electronic devices and networks across the world.
"I didn't find him," Bradley said, shaking his head. Over the past three years, his body had undergone multiple optimizations. He was no longer thin and frail like before.
Though he hadn't reached the level of Captain America's super-soldier physique, he had already surpassed elite human special forces.
"Magneto, where is Professor X?" Shaw frowned and looked toward Magneto (Erik Lehnsherr).
Compared to three years ago, Magneto was now far more mature and composed. After Professor X eliminated the hatred in his heart, he had reunited with a woman from the Mutant Evolution House.
"Professor X used Cerebro to search the entire world… but found nothing," Magneto said. Dressed in a specially made metal combat suit, he looked imposing and cool, yet his brows were tightly knit with disappointment.
"Is that really so? Raven, how's the research going?" Emma Frost asked, clearly disappointed, then turned to Mystique (Raven Darkhölme) beside her.
"We've developed an X-Gene Amplifier that can enhance the power of the X-Gene," Mystique replied, lightly tapping the metal table with her fingers.
"However, the enhancement effect is still limited. That said, based on my genes and Darwin's, we've developed a special biological armor — the Sentinel Armor."
As she spoke, a projection of a unique bio-armor appeared above the table.
Sentinel Armor.
Much like the Sentinels from the reversed future, it had no independent intelligence system. It was an exoskeleton-type armor capable of adapting to its environment and incoming attacks.
"I understand. Continue advancing steadily," Emma Frost said, nodding knowingly. She snapped her bracelet shut with a sharp click.
In an instant, the luxurious room turned completely white.
The Mind Amplifier was a special cognitive device developed by the scientists of the Evolution House. It amplified mental power and used it to simulate imagined environments within the mind.
"Stay vigilant. Wait for my King's return," Emma Frost declared as she stood up and raised her arms.
"My King lives forever! Long live mutants! Glory to you all!"
All the mutants in the room raised their arms and shouted, their eyes blazing with fanatic devotion.
"Miss Emma, we have an emergency."
Suddenly, Darwin, dressed in a white lab coat, walked in. In his hand was a special lens shaped like an eyeball.
This was a unique retinal crystal Darwin had evolved under extreme conditions, capable of retinal sharing.
"What happened, Darwin?" Emma Frost asked, taking the eyeball lens and gently crushing it in her hand.
Pop.
The crystal shattered. At that very moment, vivid images appeared before every mutant.
In the image, amid the ruins of a U.S. military base in New Jersey, a massive rat crawled out of a sewer. It shook its body — and transformed into a mutant dressed in civilian clothes.
The mutant stared blankly at the ruins. His retina flickered, transmitting everything he saw directly to the Mutant Evolution House's visual network.
"My King… it's my King, Lancelot," Emma Frost said in shock.
Above the ruins of the New Jersey base, an unparalleled figure floated silently in the air.
The moment she saw him, Emma knew exactly who he was.
The King of Mutants — Lancelot, missing for three full years.
"Hurry! Azazel, take us to our King!" Mystique said excitedly. Three years had passed — she could not wait another second.
"Teleport."
Azazel tapped his bracelet lightly. Instantly, massive crimson mist flooded the room.
When the red fog dissipated, Emma Frost and the others were gone.
With the scientists' assistance, Azazel no longer needed everyone to hold hands in a line to teleport.
Where the red mist passed, space itself rippled.
Boom.
Above the New Jersey base ruins, Lancelot was calmly observing the devastation when a massive cloud of red mist appeared out of thin air.
As the mist cleared, familiar mutant figures emerged.
Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, Azazel, Riptide, Sabretooth (Victor Creed), Gambit (Remy LeBeau), John Wraith, Magneto, and over a dozen other mutants all knelt on one knee.
"Congratulations on your triumphant return, my King."
At that moment, their eyes glowed with a light like singing birds as they expressed their reverence through psychic resonance.
"I'm back."
Lancelot slowly descended beside Emma Frost, spreading his arms as he announced his return in a powerful, stirring voice.
"My Eternal King — the Third."
"Mutant Eternity!"
The mutants erupted into wild cheers. They had waited three years.
At last, the King of Mutants had returned.
"Let's go. Let's go home," Lancelot said with satisfaction, gently linking arms with Emma Frost and Mystique.
Boom.
Once again, an immense crimson mist surged out from Azazel's body. Wherever the red fog touched, all mutants vanished instantly.
Lancelot — has returned in absolute dominance.
