Chapter 28: Take a Bath

Harry saw the door at the top of the stairs opening up.

Morgan glanced down at him. "I hope you didn't touch any of my stuff."

"I did not. I have to say that you have some interesting things down there. I even found a few familiar items." Harry gave her a knowing look.

"Are you going to judge me for acquiring some of your possessions after you died?" Morgan asked.

Harry smiled as he walked out of the basement. "Not at all. I am actually glad they ended up with you. You didn't happen to come across my magical staff, right?"

"I did not. But I do have a good idea of where it could be. Unfortunately, it's far away from London and thus, outside my range. The contact with the current owner has been unsuccessful so far."

"That is still wonderful news," said Harry with excitement. "I thought it would have been long gone by now."

Something else came to his mind. "What about that book of mine, the black tome… you know the one."

Morgan frowned deeply. "Don't talk to me about that cursed book!"

"I'm assuming you were also unsuccessful in retrieving that one," Harry said.

This was the book containing the spell that he used to seal her with those white chains.

He was sure that Morgan had spent a very long time trying to acquire it, with the hope of finding a counter-spell to free herself from the restraints.

Harry tapped his head. "Don't worry. The knowledge that you so desperately want is still in here. But I would still like to retrieve that book. I don't want it to fall into the wrong hands."

"You can actually free me from this prison?" There was a hint of hope in her eyes.

"Not as I am right now. I have the knowledge, yes, but there are some things I require first," Harry said.

"Just tell me the spell, and I will do it myself," Morgan insisted.

Harry chuckled. "My dear Morgan, I was not born yesterday. Quid pro quo."

"Tsk!" Morgan crossed her arms. "It's not like I would have kicked you out...immediately."

"By the way, how was your conversation with these magical authorities?"

"The auror?" Morgan seemed uninterested. "They won't be a problem. The Ministry of Magic is afraid of me. They will continue to look for you somewhere else. As long as you stay here, you should be safe."

"Ministry of Magic… what is that?" Harry asked.

"It's the magical government. Magic users and non-magicals have been living separately for a very long time, to the point that non-magicals, whom we call Muggles, don't even know we exist. The Minister of Magic is the one in charge of every wizard and witch in Britain."

"I see. I had my suspicions about this. Something must have occurred to separate our two worlds in such a way," Harry muttered.

"A lot of things happened. Merlin, it's been over fifteen hundred years. And I lived through all of that." There was a lot of bitterness in Morgan's voice.

"A very long time indeed. I would very much like to learn all about that. I'm not fond of not knowing things, and I feel a bit lost at the moment, to be honest," Harry told her.

"Don't expect me to just sit here and relate to you the events of the last millennium and a half. I'll get you some books."

"That would be most helpful," Harry said. "And I would also like to hear everything about you."

"Me?" Morgan crossed her arms. "You care about me now?"

"Believe it or not, I always have."

Morgan glared at him for a good minute as if she was trying to measure the sincerity of his words. "Hmph! You should first catch up with the books. Otherwise, you are going to ask me too many questions."

"And what about Ki—… Arthur. What happened to him? And to Camelot. I am very cur—"

"Again," Morgan interrupted him. "Let's leave the questionnaire for later." She wrinkled her nose. "Right now, what you need is a good bath and some new clothes. We should take care of that first."

"Oh." Harry looked down at himself. He had been walking for many hours without stopping, so his smell might not be the best.

"I'll show you where the bath is, then I will go out and get you something more appropriate to wear here." She pointed at his clothes. "And I'm burning those rags."

"Well, that was also my intention, but I'm afraid that I have little money on me. Just a few coins that I—"

"Don't worry about money. That is something that I have plenty of."

"Really?" Harry sounded surprised. "From what I heard before, it appears that this shop was not very popular, so I assumed th—"

"Watch it." Morgan interrupted him. "You really think I was broke? I own several other shops in the alley. I have others managing them for me. I have also amassed large sums of gold by trading invaluable relics from our era."

She then guided him to the first floor of the house. There was a large bathroom inside her bedroom.

"Clean yourself. I'll go get you a few things," Morgan said.

"I thought the shops would be closed for like another hour," Harry commented.

"Luckily for you, one of the shops I own is called Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions and sells some of the best robes in the entire alley." Morgan turned around to leave.

"Thank you for the assistance, Morgan," Harry said with a smile on his face. "It appears that this unfortunate situation has served to nurture some kindness in y—hey!" He moved his head to one side to avoid an electrical spark.

"I told you to watch it! I didn't ask for your judgment." She walked away. "Now go take a bath, you stinky kid."
