Chapter 139: Searching for the Thunder Fruit
Plop!
Jiang Qize and little Robin jumped down from the Wind God's back and landed on Birka's street.
The Wind God couldn't land—just the wind generated by its movement could blow Birka apart.
Birka wasn't large. Judging by the houses, there were only a few dozen households. Everything was a sea of white, surrounded by a bit of greenery—no one knew how those plants even grew here.
Jiang Qize glanced over the houses and the people peeking at him from hiding. He didn't pay them any mind.
Birka was just a small corner of Sky Island, far from Angel Island and of little value.
As long as they didn't provoke him, he wouldn't kill anyone without reason.
He had come here for one purpose only: the Thunder Fruit.
"Let's go."
Jiang Qize ruffled Robin's hair and headed toward the forest.
Enel had destroyed Birka after eating the Thunder Fruit, so the fruit had to be somewhere in this forest.
Once the two of them walked away, heads began peeking out from behind doors, watching their backs.
"Heavens… where did they come from…? They were riding such a huge bird."
"I thought I was going to die—its wings were big enough to block out the sun."
"What are they even doing here in Birka…"
Residents trickled out, whispering anxiously.
Unlike Angel Island, they barely used sky-shells—too primitive. They didn't even dare to use impact shells, afraid the kickback would ruin their hands.
So when they saw a colossal bird like that, of course they were terrified.
If Jiang Qize had attacked them, Birka would be finished.
But he had no intention of bothering them.
By now, he and Robin had reached the forest.
The trees here were enormous—each easily over twenty meters tall, a meter thick, with dense foliage.
"Robin, head that way and look for a devil fruit. If you find one, call me."
He instructed her.
"Mm, got it, Captain." Robin nodded.
"Go on."
Jiang Qize smiled, watching her leave.
He released his Observation Haki, instantly covering the entire forest.
But he suspected Observation Haki might not necessarily react to devil fruits, so he walked in another direction, sweeping his eyes across every tree and every patch of ground without missing anything.
Time passed.
An hour later—
"Nothing?" Jiang Qize frowned deeply.
He had searched more than half the forest, yet had not found the Thunder Fruit.
"I wonder how Robin's side is doing…"
He muttered and walked toward her.
"How is it, Robin? Anything?"
He asked softly when he reached her.
Robin shook her head. "No."
His frown deepened. That didn't make sense. Had Enel found the fruit only after leaving Birka, then returned to destroy it later?
Or… was the Thunder Fruit not born yet?
These were possible—but unlikely. Whenever a fruit user died, the fruit would instantly reappear somewhere else.
There were no devil fruit users with lightning abilities anywhere in the sea right now, so the Thunder Fruit was almost certainly unclaimed.
"Huh?"
Suddenly, a small presence appeared within the range of his Observation Haki.
"That's… Enel?"
Jiang Qize murmured.
"We're leaving." He turned to Robin.
"Huh…? Captain, we're not searching anymore?" Robin blinked up at him, puzzled.
