While running through the wilderness. He saw few devil spawns carcasses but they're empty as they didn't have any darkness.
He is also curious about why and who is killing them. He has a human in mind who could be the culprit behind these gutted creatures.
'it is that human, isn't it?'
The human that he saw in the death zone. He doesn't have any base behind his guess. However, he just feels like a human who is crazy enough to go in the area of flesh storm. Then this isn't too crazy for that human.
He continues running for few more minutes.
All the devil spawns that might have been hiding had came out of their hiding support and are dead now.
The wounds on these creatures are blunt like it is deliver with a hammer or something. It is such a barbaric way to kill.
The skulls and limbs of these creatures are broken. Every part is crushed into a paste. He never thought that something can even kill these creatures like that.
The dead devil spawns he encountered weren't as many as he saw in the further reaches of the West world. it is actually quite rare to see so many near the boneyard.
'are they being attracted to something…?'
He remembers that bloodlust that he felt in the death zone. It made him want to flee but to these devil spawn it was a call for battle.
He really feel the bloodlust to some extend. So maybe it is something else entirely or the human is using it methodically.
These thoughts were answered instantly though. With a sound of a metallic spear landing on the ground. It is far away from him. But the sound was quite clear.
The River herself confirmed that it is the same stick that she saw.
'It is here then…'
He finally feels the bloodlust to a higher degree. The same bloodlust that he felt in the death zone. The lust to kill all that is living.
He hides and keeps his eyes in that direction. River can tell him what could be happening. So he doesn't really have to move closer to the danger.
That sounds like a plan. But nothing ever goes as planned.
[something is moving towards you]
Steel understands the words but couldn't move. Because even he could see the thing that is moving towards him with terrifying speed. No it isn't a devil spawn.
It is bloodied up man. His body is littered with wounds but he seem to doesn't care about his injuries.
The man has red eyes like blood and dark hair that resembles the night sky. He is handsome but it is hard to care about that. He is actually so much more terrifying than anything.
Steel braces himself for attack but nothing happened. Instead, the man just sits down besides him and breathing heavily.
"That thing sure is fast. It even seem to understand my attacking style with my new weapon. It isn't like I am good at using it but I am also not bad at it. The weapon just have a steep learning curve. What do you thing, friend? Should I change my tactics and attack it head on?"
His injuries and polite manner of speaking wasn't matching. Shouldn't he be panicking instead chatting with a stranger?
Steel wonders what to say but the man just continues talking.
"My apologies. I forgot to introduce myself. It happens sometimes you know. Well, my name...soul name is Lust for blood. But there's another name that is given to me by my adopted father. But that name is too classic for me. So people usually know me as War. Call me just War. Okay?"
Steel nodes and introduces himself. He has already given up on understand whatever is happening with this man.
"I am Steel. I am training under Officer Jane for the time being. I was sent to watch over a devil spawn. But it was dead. So I just came here cause of…boredom, yeah. And…"
War listen to Steel's words with careful consideration. He doesn't seem to be scheming about killing Steel in any way.
Steel also wonders how did he even found him. Was it just a coincidence or is it related to that bloodlust of his?
Also is he blushing? Steel really feels uncomfortable for what that implication means but he tries to ignore it and continues.
"And about that Devil. it would be better to bring that singi- I mean that bat looking devil in the sunlight. "
War listen to him but then asks in genuine confusion.
"huh? Why…"
Steel explains.
"cause it hates sunlight. Its skin seem to burn or something when it goes into the light…..wasn't it avoiding the light? I thought it would be obvious?"
War just smiles and replies.
"I didn't paid much attention to that. But good observation, knowing its weakness would make this much easier. I appreciate your help, friend."
Steel fails to understand when did they became friend.
It is also hard to believe that someone who is fighting that devil for quite some time now. Failed to see that pattern all together.
Steel wonders for few minutes about what to do. He is vary of the human in front of him. it is really hard to trust a human. Perhaps, he should just leave this crazy man alone.
However, he didn't get to ask that. Because the spear comes back flying from the sky. The spear was pure black and metallic from his first glance. Steel also experienced a weird feeling in his chest.
'this thing was made by a…demon.'
Demons knows each other. They can comprehend demonic items and themselves much more clearly than any other creature.
Sometimes he wonders if humans can feel presence of humans around them like demons. If they do then it would surely be quite overwhelming or are they all used to this feeling of familiarity?
That isn't really what he should be thinking about right now. He needs to run and get away.
He hears War say.
"it is coming.."
Steel is already backing up and as he did. He saw in his peripheral vision the Singing bat.
It is severely hurt and bloodied up. Even more than War. But its eyes are so much more lustful for blood. These are the eyes of a devil spawn.
That craze look can only be seen in the eyes of a devil spawn.
Steel spares a glance at the man and shivers with doubt. He saw the blood red eyes that want nothing else but violence. It seem like he is wrong at his initial judgement.
Steel sees no human in this place. Both of them are just Devils.
