The Singing bat is in front of Jane now. She was able to make some distant after that initial attack.
Jane isn't tired or hurt from the fall. Emelia's buffs and her Soul weapons enchantment has negated the damage from the fall. On the other hand, the Singing bat looks hurt and incapable of flight. It is glaring at her with killing intent.
Jane couldn't help but taunt him.
"what? didn't I promised a hit?"
Singing bat raged on with a hateful shriek. It runs on all four of its limbs abandoning his flight all together. It is still fast and attentive cause of all its ears.
Rock is already few meters behind jane. It is fight between a devil spawn and two humans. Three if you count Nuro with her pistol.
The battle begins.
The Devil spawn clawed at Jane but she dodges and let Rock move in front of her to attack with it broad sword.
The Devil spawn barely dodges an attack of the sword and a bullet that miss its ear with a hair's length.
The devil is at an disadvantage but it isn't giving up. When does ever a devil would care about itself? It is raging with only one thing. And that is to kill these humans.
Jane is aware of that. She hasn't faced as many devils as her leader but she knows how devil works and how they think. Or do they think? That doesn't really matter right now.
Jane ducks form Singing bat's another attack that was aimed at her throat. This devil sure loves attacking human heads or necks.
Rock takes the opportunity and lands a hit on top of the Singing bat. Damaging a bunch of its ears. Even Nuro's bullet hits at one of the Devil's ear.
Without its flight, the devil seem to struggle dealing with humans. The devil is hurt but not dead. It would give up on killing until all the humans are dead. The situation is dire for the devil but it could care less.
It attacks with brute force with no regard for its flesh. It even purposefully got hit in its other wing so it can hit Rock in return.
The damage taken by him is minimum but the devil spawn never stopped with one hit. The attacks are keep on coming. If Jane and others made one wrong move it will kill them.
Time passes and Jane is tired of this stalemate. She hated it.
She doesn't want to lose another one of her people just cause of a desperate devil's last attempt at killing.
It is frustrating so she has to break this stalemate somehow so she can move to finally land a killing hit. But time is her enemy. Jane is in so much pain cause of her future hit predicting attribute [known future]. That's how she's been able dodge those killing blows.
She seem to feel fear cause of her current situation.
"huh…"
Fear? But from what? is it cause of that devil spawn? Everyone seem to feel this fear out of nowhere. They are so close to killing this devil and the devil itself is as hurt as the humans.
So why now?
The strangest part of it is the Singing bat behavior seem to change. It is getting distracted. It is screaming at some other direction.
The strangeness didn't stop just at that. The devil seem to be trying to find a way to escape now. Trying to find some way to retreat from these humans. That is not how devil behave. It wanted to kill before this everyone of the humans felt this strange fear.
Jane is confused and as this strangeness continues the devil finally gets to escape from the cohort. Then it ran towards the direction where it was screaming few minutes ago.
The whole cohort couldn't understand what even happened. But seem like they failed their task of killing the Devil spawn.
And Jane failed to avenge the death of her friend with her own hands.

[The devil spawn run away form the humans in a different direction. One of the human is dead and one is wounded. Other four are tired but alive.]
Steel have been listening to River narrating. He isn't sure about how battle between the Singing bat and the humans went from just her narration.
But he knows how many are dead and who isn't. The devil spawn itself didn't die and just ran away for some reason according to River.
There must be some occurrence that caused that devil to run for something else. It could be retreating to attack later or maybe it actually ran away cause he saw no chance of winning.
Steek just doesn't know.
'only one human died? I wanted few more to die…except for Jane, i guess.'
He doesn't really care of humans live or die. it actually would be better if they're alive for him. But his demonic nature just wants the opposite.
Demons are said to want the opposite. And even though, Steel himself think that he only half falls in category of demons. However, there is still some part of him that just want some chaos or death.
He doesn't like that part of himself. It may as well be in intrusive thoughts that is currently thinking. Maybe that's what demons are…. Beings that think too many wild intrusive thoughts. Or not.
River isn't done with her narrating yet. She continues.
[The devil spawn run towards the direction with haste. It seem desperate to reach the destination. Soon its ears tense up towards the sky. It looks upwards as if something is about to fall on it. And something did. It is a metallic stick like thing.]
Steel wonders if she meant a javelin or a harpoon.
The devil also seem to be aware of this javelin thing. Was this the reason it left the humans? Steel isn't sure. Could this thing belong to someone else?
[It pierces the devil's limb. Then the metallic stick starts moving or floating up to the sky. Carrying the devil with it. The devil wants to escape that stick but its struggles are meaningless. So it uses its sharp teeth to cut off its limb. It fall on the ground and starts running towards the same direction. The stick floats back towards that direction too.]
Steel starting to doubt if whatever River is saying is even true. What exactly is even happening?
He is confused and terrified. Could it be some other Demonoid weapon or something? The chances are low but he already had encountered one before so maybe there could be.
He needs to think and ask more question to really happened there.
However, these thoughts are out to pause when something grows on the back side of his hand.. It is like an eye. A big eye that has an golden iris.
'what…'
Steel panics.
His instincts kicks in. He needs to stab his hand or bite it off before it can harm him. It doesn't wanna die. There parasite wouldn't be the one to take him down.
As he was about to perform these action though. A voice speak in his head. It is different than River. It is more mature and seem to be falling inside his ears. The voice says.
"Who are you? What is your rank and you target?"
Steel understand what it is. And it is worst than a parasite. It is actually a human.
