Chapter 72 -  Milotic Awakens

If his father had truly been a League Investigator, then why did the official report say he had gone missing during a Secret Realm exploration?

What really happened back then?

Oliver's heart churned like a raging sea.

Even with the combined memories of two lifetimes—over forty years of lived experience—he still couldn't suppress the overwhelming urge to uncover the truth about his father.

After all, his rebirth into this world had been closer to reincarnation than possession.

His parents in this life were his real parents, bound to him by blood. That connection was undeniable.

"So," Oliver said slowly, every word weighed down by emotion,

"what exactly happened back then?"

His tone was calm—too calm.

Yet that very calmness carried a chilling pressure.

He Sheng leaned back slightly, his gaze distant.

"That is something I've been pursuing all these years as well.

By that time, your father had already become the Minister of the League Investigation Department. His strength was renowned worldwide. With him guarding Xia Country, almost no one dared to provoke us.

"At that time, Xia Country stood at its absolute peak—

martial strength had Ye Yuanhao, scholarship had Lu Xinghe.

We were unquestionably the world's strongest nation.

"But soon after, incidents began erupting both inside and outside the country. There were simply not enough Investigators to handle them all. Almost every one of us had to cross provinces multiple times a day to respond to missions.

"Your father personally led a team into a Secret Realm…

and never came back."

He Sheng's voice lowered.

"You should know—his core Pokémon were all Champion-tier.

I truly cannot imagine what kind of force could have left even him powerless."

Oliver found it hard to reconcile the legendary figure He Sheng described with the vague, ordinary image of his father in his own memories.

Yet he forced himself to stay rational.

"So many incidents breaking out at the same time—it couldn't have been a coincidence.

This was a deliberate conspiracy, aimed either at Xia Country… or specifically at my father."

He Sheng placed the photo back into the drawer and nodded slowly.

"You're right.

After that incident, Xia Country returned to calm—but at a terrible cost.

"Ye Yuanhao vanished.

Lu Xinghe withdrew from public life.

"We've been investigating in secret ever since. Many major powers were involved, but none of them were the true mastermind."

"To orchestrate so many nations at once," Oliver said quietly,

"the force behind it must have been extraordinary."

"All the clues we've been able to trace," He Sheng replied gravely,

"point to a single organization—Genesis Society."

Oliver's fingers slowly clenched into a fist.

Genesis Society.

Old grudges. New hatred.

It seemed the knot between him and Genesis Society could never be untied.

"After that incident," He Sheng continued,

"the World Pokémon League's pressure on Genesis Society gradually weakened. It's very likely they reached some sort of agreement."

Oliver looked up.

"Then why tell me all of this now?"

He Sheng sighed.

"When the Minister disappeared, we feared they might turn their attention to you and your mother. So we concealed your identities and kept the truth from you. Sometimes, the more you know, the more dangerous it becomes.

"But now, you're already in conflict with Genesis Society.

And after publishing the Fairy-type paper, they will never give up on a research genius like you.

"At this point, it's better for you to know—and prepare."

Silence fell over the study.

He Sheng deliberately gave Oliver time to process everything.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

Aunt Zhang entered with a tray holding two cups of tea.

The interruption naturally shifted the conversation away from heavy matters, and the two began discussing Pokémon research instead.

By noon, at their insistence, Oliver stayed for lunch.

Only then did he realize—

the home of a Deputy Minister of the Investigation Department didn't even have a housekeeper.

"Given my line of work," He Sheng explained,

"I deal with classified materials every day. It's not convenient to have outsiders in the house."

After the meal, Oliver asked He Sheng about his father—how they had met, what kind of person he was, and what Pokémon he mainly used.

He Sheng also mentioned that there was still a Gible in the League's breeding zone—

a descendant of Ye Yuanhao's partner Garchomp—and suggested Oliver try to bond with it if he ever had the chance.

At that, Oliver awkwardly released his own Gible and explained that he had already caught it the day before.

Looking at the suddenly-appearing Gible in the study, He Sheng burst out laughing.

"Fate truly works in mysterious ways."

Not long after, seeing it was getting late, Oliver took his leave.

As he walked him to the door, He Sheng warned him:

"Genesis Society has survived for so long for a reason. My advice is simple—build your strength first before making any moves."

"Don't worry, Uncle He," Oliver replied calmly.

"I understand."

He Sheng nodded. "I trust you're not a reckless person."

Just before leaving, Oliver paused.

"One last thing, Uncle He.

Who is the current Minister of the Investigation Department?"

He Sheng broke into a wide grin.

"No one. Ever since that incident, the position has been vacant for over ten years."

Oliver nodded, waved goodbye, and left.

Back at the hotel, Oliver released all his Pokémon and prepared their Energy Blocks.

Milotic was still asleep, with no sign of waking.

Over the next two days, Oliver explored much of the capital—even challenging the Beijing Gym.

It truly lived up to its reputation. Though slightly inferior to League Headquarters in facilities, it was at least a full tier above gyms in other regions.

On the morning of the third day, Oliver woke up to clear skies and bright sunshine.

Just as he was wondering where to go next, the sky outside darkened at a visible speed.

Raindrops began to fall—

then, in an instant, turned into a torrential downpour.

Pedestrians on the streets were caught completely off guard, scrambling for shelter.

Standing by the window, Oliver stared thoughtfully at the dense curtains of rain.

Suddenly, he turned toward the room—

toward Milotic.

A soft blue glow radiated from her body, lending her an air of sacred majesty.

A vast, overwhelming presence surged outward, making Oliver feel as though he were facing towering waves dozens of meters high.

An ancient, primordial aura spread through the room—

as if she herself were the embodiment of the original ocean.

This was the ancient aura of the super-ancient Pokémon—Kyogre.

In the dim room, illuminated by flashes of blue light from outside,

Milotic slowly opened her eyes.

On her creamy-white body, ancient patterns identical to those of Groudon and Kyogre faintly emerged, flickering in and out of existence.
