Later that night, Zarek walked back into the chamber, looking very tired from the long day.
He found Eliora sitting on the bed with a book in her hand. She didn't look up or even acknowledge his presence. She just acted as if he wasn't in the room.
Zarek stood close to the bed and watched her for a few minutes, waiting for her to raise her head. When she still kept her eyes glued to the pages and ignored him, he finally let out a breath and gave up.
"How are you, my love?" he asked.
Eliora slowly lifted her head and gave him a blank look. "Fine." She replied, then went right back to reading her book.
Zarek frowned at that. "Did you have dinner already?"
"Yes," she answered without looking up this time.
His frown deepened as he took a step closer and asked, "You didn't wait for me?"
"No." she answered.
His brows furrowed as he stared at her. "Why? You usually do."
Eliora turned a page of her book and said to the book, "I was hungry and I didn't feel like waiting."
