Eliora held his hand gently between both of hers.
"Start from the beginning," she said. "From when I fell unconscious during the attack."
Zarek squeezed her hand affectionately. Then he lifted it to his lips and pressed a soft kiss against her knuckles.
When he looked back at her, his expression had grown more serious.
"After those beasts attacked," he began, "you lost consciousness."
His thumb brushed over her hand as he spoke.
"I dealt with them."
His eyes darkened slightly at the memory. "When they were gone, I went back to you."
He paused.
"And then… your hair started glowing again."
Eliora blinked.
"Glowing? Again?"
Zarek nodded once.
"Yes."
He hesitated for a moment before continuing.
"And then… you lifted off the ground."
Eliora stared at him. "Zar...?"
"You levitated," he said.
He shifted a little on the couch, clearly uncomfortable remembering it.
"I tried to reach you," he continued. "I tried everything."
