Chapter 2 - unexpected mate

Storm pov

The morning of my eighteenth birthday dawned bright and early, with the sun shining through the windows of my room like a golden promise. I woke up feeling energized, knowing that today was a special day. Knight stirred within me, her presence a comforting warmth that seemed to vibrate with anticipation. I got ready and went to the training ground. Birthday wishes came my way which I only nodded to. I have never really liked celebrating my birthday.. I walked Towards Peter, our head Warrior.

Here she comes, my birthday girl and best fighter, he said, drop it Peter if you don't want your head missing from your body. You know I hate birthdays, I said in a cold voice. I know storm but today is different. You get to become the Alpha and also find your mate. enough Peter I only look forward to becoming Alpha today not finding a mate I don't need.. that got the attention of other pack members training, making me roll my eyes at them. Everyone get back to training I commanded and they did.. Peter and I started to spar and I didn't even break a sweat. Storm end this play. I need a run, knight said, making me chuckle and with a kick I brought him down. damn it storm can't you just let me win for once Peter said making me roll my eyes, no Peter you are the head warrior you should learn to be more ruthless in your fighting even if it is training, I'm going for a run see you later.

I transformed into Knight,my wolf giving her control. And the minute she took over, we feel the air, and the breeze ruffled our black, thick fur. Knight stretched out our paws and shook our bodies. Knight is a thick, black wolf with a hint of purple and deep black eyes. We ran through the woods, enjoying the feel of our paws hitting the ground, as we ran, feeling free.

And I was lost in the moment, when I began to wonder why I didn't see Star in the training ground this morning. Before I woke up this morning, she had already left the bed, so I assumed that she went home to get ready for training. She wasn't in the training ground, and then I mind-linked her to ask her why she didn't come for training.

And ask Star, why weren't you in the training ground this morning? You are the future beta, and I expect you to train in the morning alongside me."

And she responded with, "I'm sorry, Storm. I woke up with cramps."

And I was like, "Oh, okay, sorry. Is it that time of the month for you? Okay, no problem. I will come see you later."

And Star replied with, "No need for that. My parents and I are coming for your birthday breakfast that your parents planned."

And I grunted, "Ah, I hear those breakfast, okay."

My family had planned a small celebration for me, and the Beta's family, which includes Star's parents, Beta Mark and Beta Linda, and her younger brother, Zane had come to join us. The moment Star walked into the Alpha quarters, I caught a whiff of her intoxicating scent, and my wolf immediately sat up, recognizing her as our mate. I was taken aback, my mind reeling with the revelation. Star was my best friend, my confidante, and my second-in-command. I had never thought of her in a romantic way, but my wolf was clear: she was our mate. Now I understand why the moon goddess told me that she will give me a mate. I can't reject a mate that will make me want the mate bone and value it.. you might be a enough storm but you need your mates.

The Moon Goddess had appeared to me the night before, telling me that I would have two mates, a revelation that had left me feeling overwhelmed and uncertain. I didn't want a mate, let alone two! But the Moon Goddess had explained that it was necessary, that my powers required the balance of two mates to keep them in check. I had healing powers before, but now I had telekinesis, the ability to bring things back to life, teleportation, and precognition. It was a lot to take in, and I knew I had to keep it all a secret. Knight was as shocked as me as she feels the mate pull with light star's wolf. Damn the moon goddess got us real good alright, I can never hurt star like that. She always believes in mates and looked forward to her birthday in a few weeks.

I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself as Star approached me with a gift. She smiled and wished me happy birthday, handing me a beautiful pendant necklace. I felt a surge of emotion, and my wolf growled softly in my mind, urging me to claim her. I knew I had to get out of there, to process my feelings and figure out what to do.

I excused myself and left the dining hall, avoiding Star and everyone else until it was time for the ceremony. When Star tried to offer to help me with my dressing, I turned her down, trying to keep her at arm's length. I knew it was hurtful, but I didn't know how else to handle the situation.

From Star's point of view, she felt confused and hurt by my sudden change in behavior. She couldn't understand why I was avoiding her, and it was eating away at her.

The ceremony went on, and I became the Alpha, my parents beaming with pride. I announced that Star would be my second-in-command and would become Beta in two weeks, when she turned eighteen. My father asked if I had sensed my mate, and I lied, telling him no. I knew it was a conversation for another time, one that I wasn't ready to have yet.

As the night wore on, I couldn't shake the feeling that Star was my mate, and that I was in trouble. The Moon Goddess had given me a gift, but it felt more like a curse. I was the Alpha, and I was supposed to be strong and fearless, but the thought of loving and losing someone was terrifying.

I glanced at Star, who was watching me with a mixture of confusion and hurt. I knew I had to talk to her, to explain, but I wasn't ready yet. The night was young, and I had a feeling that it was going to be a long one.
