Chapter 39 - Chapter-39

"Alright..." Thinking about how I had just stayed at Da Guo's house last week, and also with Teacher An... I agreed. There was no way to refuse this, and there seemed to be a faint sense of anticipation in my heart, even though nothing would likely happen while I was at home.

"Didn't you tell my mom?" I thought for a moment and asked again.

"No..." Da Guo waved his hand and said.

After about half an hour, Mom finished her work and came out of the warehouse. She then went to the kitchen to prepare lunch.

Da Guo wanted to help, but Mom "chased" him back, telling him to study with me.

Da Guo winked at me. I took a deep breath and walked toward the kitchen.

I adjusted my breathing, trying not to reveal any flaws or slip-ups when asking this question—not even an odd look.

"Mom..." I entered the kitchen, where Mom was wearing an apron by the stove, and called out softly.

"What's up?" Mom turned around, a faint smile curling at the corner of her mouth.

"Da Guo's mom went to the city for training and won't be back until tomorrow... I was thinking if Da Guo could stay at our house tonight. Is that okay?" I said, feeling a bit embarrassed. It was half-true, half-false.

"Oh, of course..." Upon hearing my words, Mom's brow furrowed slightly, but she quickly resumed her smile and replied, showing no reluctance.

"That's good..." Hearing Mom's answer, I couldn't help but sigh in relief. It was expected that Mom would agree.

Both Da Guo and I come from single-parent families. If his mom isn't home, he'd be left alone.

Back in the bedroom, I gave Da Guo a slight nod. He showed a hint of excitement and rubbed his hands together.

What exactly is this guy planning?

Could it be that he wants to do what I did last week—sneak into my mom's bedroom at night?

When that time comes... Thinking about it, I couldn't help but feel excited and quickly suppressed my erratic breathing.

After that, Da Guo studied with me. If this guy really settles down to study, he actually does quite well.

Truth be told, Da Guo is very smart. If he worked as hard as I do, my grades probably wouldn't be better than his.

During lunch, Mom asked Da Guo about his mom going away for training and even proactively told him that if his mom isn't home in the future, he's welcome to come to our house for meals and to stay over. It was a polite gesture, but also sincere. When Mom said this, there was no hint of anything ambiguous.

However, there was one abnormal detail: Mom never mentioned to me that Da Guo had been coming to our house for lunch on several days over the past two weeks. This might signify something—perhaps she was afraid I'd overthink it, or maybe...

"During these two weeks when you came to our house for lunch, did my mom ever tell you not to come anymore?" After lunch, Da Guo and I went out on our bikes to play. On the way, I couldn't help but ask.

"Of course she did, but I insisted. Auntie was a bit helpless. I just showed up uninvited each time—it's not like she'd kick me out, right?" Upon hearing my question, Da Guo rolled his eyes.

"You really have thick skin. I couldn't do that..." I sincerely gave him a thumbs-up.

In the evening, after dinner, Mom surprisingly let Da Guo and me watch TV together.

I don't even know how long our TV had been gathering dust. And just like Teacher An did that day, Mom washed some fruit for us and brought out sunflower seeds.

However, Mom dressed very conservatively and formally at home, not at all as open as Teacher An.

When Mom was about to go to the warehouse to livestream, she specifically reminded us to go to bed early.

"Whew..." Da Guo lay on the bedding Mom had prepared for him and took a comfortable, deep breath. This was actually Da Guo's first time staying at our house. I really had no idea what this guy was up to.

I don't get to watch TV often, so I was quite engrossed.

"Bro, stop watching. Come check this out..." After a while, Da Guo, lying on the bed, blinked at me.

"What is it?" I asked curiously, walking over.

Da Guo was fiddling with his phone. I looked and saw he was on a livestream interface—and the person streaming was Mom.

It was a bit different from how she was in the house. Mom was sitting in the corner of the warehouse for her livestream. Although dressed very modestly, she wore a cotton, form-fitting top—a high-necked one—that perfectly showcased her full, ample breasts.

It wasn't revealing, but anyone seeing it couldn't help but feel their breath quicken because Mom's breasts were both firm and voluptuous.

At that moment, Mom was explaining some male physiological issues and matters between couples in the livestream, but she spoke very subtly, not explicitly. On a regular livestreaming platform, censorship is quite strict.

"I watch every night, and I've even sent gifts to Auntie..." Da Guo said, looking at the screen on his phone.

"Does my mom know it's you?" I asked.

"Of course not..." Da Guo showed a wry, defeated smile.

Da Guo and I watched Mom's livestream on his phone. During a break, Mom got up and performed a short dance and sang a song—common ways for streamers to interact with fans.

Mom chatted fluently in the livestream, speaking gently and sweetly, and her words were very appropriate. I'd never seen Mom so talkative in a livestream before. Moreover, it was the first time I'd heard Mom sing—it was really nice. Her dancing was a bit amateurish, but it was clear she had practiced professionally.

As Da Guo and I watched Mom on the livestream, Da Guo looked on with appreciation, while I felt a pang of heartache and sadness.

Watching Mom promote and sell items through the shopping cart in the livestream, especially when some fans made inappropriate comments in the chat, yet Mom showed no sign of reluctance—she's endured so much for the sake of living.

"Sigh..." I sighed quietly. Perhaps Mom really has had it tough alone. She deserves to enjoy relaxation and warmth.

I don't want Mom to remarry and find me a stepdad. I couldn't help but glance at Da Guo. Perhaps he could provide Mom with care without disrupting our family.

According to what Da Guo said himself, Mom's attitude toward him has changed somewhat. After being without support for so long, with Da Guo's help over this period, Mom has gradually come to see him as a helper, a support. Though not a mainstay, Mom isn't as lonely—at least there's someone to help and talk to.

"Boiling a frog in warm water"—that was Da Guo's initial idea, but he didn't expect Mom to be much more steadfast than he imagined.

"Auntie is about to finish, right?" Watching the livestream content on the screen, Da Guo turned to ask me.

"Probably... After all, with you here, Mom probably shouldn't stream too late... She'll likely end early to check on us..." Hearing Da Guo's words, I nodded in agreement.

Unlike Da Guo's house, my home doesn't have a third bedroom, so Da Guo had to squeeze into bed with me.

Fortunately, my bed is a double bed, so having Da Guo there wasn't too crowded.

This guy told Teacher An last week that he didn't want to share a bed with another man, but now he's shamelessly squeezing into bed with me. He really is an animal driven by his lower half.

"By the way, every time Auntie comes back, she opens your door to check on you, right?" Da Guo suddenly asked me a seemingly random question.

Hearing Da Guo's words, I nodded suspiciously.

"Alright, let's sleep..." Da Guo said as he lay down, ready to sleep.

Although Da Guo and I shared a bed, we each had our own blanket and pillow.

After turning off the lights, Da Guo was still watching the livestream on his phone, but he had headphones on, so I couldn't hear anything—just a faint glow from behind me.

I slept on the inner side of the bed, Da Guo on the outer side. I was facing the wall, with my back to him.

Although I was tired and weary today, I didn't feel sleepy at all.

Is Da Guo staying at our house tonight really just because Teacher An isn't home?

Teacher An has gone away for training before, and didn't Da Guo sleep fine alone at home then?

Even though he's young, he's broad-shouldered and sturdy. Who would harm a sports-specialized student with a physique no less than an adult's?

Soon, I heard Da Guo behind me turn off his phone screen. Then, he rustled as he took off his clothes and slipped under the covers.

Not long after, I heard the sound of the back door opening.

Mom had finished her livestream and was back...
