As the sea tide receded, Golden Tortoise Island returned to silence. After the last traces of rosy light faded, the fox and the rabbit followed the Holy Mother of the Turtle Spirit back to her cave dwelling. The cave remained hidden among reefs and ancient vines. It looked simple on the outside, yet held a vast inner world. Waterlike patterns flowed slowly along the stone walls, breathing like the veins of the sea itself, calming the mind without effort.
The Holy Mother seated herself upon the stone platform and swept her sleeve. The cave entrance closed, cutting off the sound of the waves. Her gaze rested on the two of them for a moment, carrying both scrutiny and quiet satisfaction.
"Now that your golden cores have formed, you can no longer remain on the island to cultivate alone," she said gently, though her words carried undeniable weight.
The fox and the rabbit straightened at once, gathering their focus.
"The game of deification has already begun," the Holy Mother continued. "Cause and effect no longer lie in the mountains, but among mortals. Your first step is not combat, nor fame, but observation."
"Observe what" Snow asked softly.
"Human hearts."
The Holy Mother raised a finger. A water mirror formed in the air, rippling to reveal a magnificent city. Its walls coiled like dragons, palaces stretched endlessly, and streets crossed in orderly lines. The city buzzed with life, yet beneath it lingered an oppressive tension.
"This place is called Chaoge," she said. "This man is called Di Xin."
Within the mirror, deep inside the royal city, a figure stood upon a high terrace. His posture was straight, his gaze cast down upon the people. His presence was sharp and proud.
With only a single glance, Red felt a tightness in his chest. It was not pressure from cultivation, but the heavy weight formed by power and desire intertwined.
"On this journey, you must not reveal your identities, nor interfere with cause and effect," the Holy Mother said, her tone turning grave. "You are only to observe and record. The actions of Di Xin will decide countless lives and will also influence the future path of our sect."
"What if he commits evil" Snow asked quietly.
The Holy Mother fell silent for a moment. Her eyes were as calm as the deep sea."Then it is still not something you can intervene in now."
She raised her hand and produced two smooth jade talismans, placing one in each of their hands."These talismans will conceal your presence, making you no different from mortals. If you face mortal danger, you may return to Golden Tortoise Island."
Red accepted his talisman and stored it carefully."Your disciple understands."
Snow nodded as well. Her ears twitched slightly, but she did not hesitate."We will only observe. We will not act."
The Holy Mother looked at them and allowed a faint smile to surface."Remember, you are not going to judge good or evil. You are going to learn how to discern."
Outside the cave, the sea wind rose once more. The path descending to the mortal world slowly opened within the flowing waterlight.
The fox and the rabbit stood side by side. They looked back once at the cave, and once more at the Holy Mother.
This departure was no longer a time of secluded cultivation. It was their first true step into the greater currents of fate.
