Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Gaining Spider Abilities

"How much time has passed?" Silas shook his head. He now felt incredibly alert, and he noticed that his eyesight had drastically improved.

Although he wasn't near-sighted, his vision was so sharp he could clearly see a fly perched on the windowpane.

"It worked?" Silas felt a surge of joy.

With an excited heart, Silas went to the wall and placed his right hand on it. "Phew~"

Then, his left hand followed, and he tried to climb upward.

"Cool~" Silas succeeded! He climbed up and hung on the wall, just like a spider clinging to it.

Silas returned to the floor, quickly got dressed, and walked over to the doorknob. With a slight pull, the doorknob came off in his hand.

"Damn it, I forgot." Silas was now like Peter at the beginning; he couldn't control his new strength yet.

"Looks like I'll need a lot of practice..." Silas thought, and his mind moved.

Two Shadowkhan ninjas appeared from the shadows, their scarlet eyes glowing.

"Help me fix the doorknob," Silas said, pointing to the toolbox under the bed. "The tools are there."

The two ninjas nodded, retrieved the toolbox from under the bed, and began the repair.

The moment Silas stepped out the door, he heard Ben Parker's voice.

"Oh, goodness! Peter, how did you do that?" Silas immediately followed the sound.

He arrived at the bathroom doorway to see that Peter had broken a faucet, which was currently spraying water.

Ben Parker was holding tools and starting to repair the faucet.

"I'm sorry, Uncle Ben, I don't know, it's just..." Peter couldn't quite explain what had happened.

He just wanted to turn the faucet to wash up, but with a gentle twist, the entire faucet came off in his hand.

"Silas, you and Peter go wash up downstairs and eat breakfast. You'll be late again. I've got this," Ben Parker said, noticing Silas outside the door.

"Okay, Uncle Ben." Silas gave Peter a look, and Peter quickly walked out.

While washing up downstairs, Silas tried his best to control his strength, which was how he managed not to break the faucet too.

After finishing breakfast, the two brothers were about to walk out the door.

Aunt May said, "Peter, you haven't taken your glasses!" She handed a pair of glasses to Peter Parker.

"Thanks, Aunt May." Peter took the glasses, but he didn't put them on.

When he woke up this morning, he had tried to wear them, but everything became blurry. Without them, his vision was perfectly clear. It seemed his eyesight had been restored?

On the Street

"Hurry up! The bus is here!" Peter spotted the bus station not far ahead; the bus had already arrived.

Peter immediately took off running at full speed. "Hey! Wait up!"

"So fast!" Silas marveled at Peter's speed. To avoid standing out, he controlled his own speed and chased after him.

He was running fast, but not ridiculously so.

The bus driver glanced casually in the rearview mirror and saw Peter chasing the bus.

Before the driver could react, Peter had caught up to the bus and was shouting on the right side of the vehicle.

The driver quickly slammed the brakes, causing everyone inside to lurch forward and nearly fall to the floor.

"Oh, my God! What's going on!"

"What's the big idea! Don't you know that's dangerous?"

But the driver ignored the passengers behind him, slowly opened the door, and said to Peter outside, "How did you do that?"

"Thank you! And my brother is right behind me," Peter replied with an embarrassed smile, offering no explanation.

A moment later, Silas finally caught up to the bus, gasping for air.

"Hah... whew..." Silas pretended to be exhausted.

Peter was relieved that Silas had finally boarded, but he looked around and the bus suddenly went quiet.

He realized all the passengers were staring at him strangely. Silas discreetly hid behind Peter.

After giving everyone an apologetic look, Peter led Silas to a seat. He noticed Liz Allan was on the bus, but she only glanced at him before returning her gaze to the window.

"Bro, why did you run so fast?" Silas whispered in disbelief.

Peter also shook his head, puzzled. "I don't know."

Soon, they arrived at school, and the two went to their respective classrooms.

"You're actually not late! That's unbelievable. Looks like it's going to be a sunny day," Misty said, smiling from behind Silas.

Silas shrugged. "Maybe it'll be a cloudy day instead?"

"I doubt it," Misty said, looking out the window at the clear blue sky.

On the Other Side

Peter hadn't been able to focus in class all morning, staring at his hands in a daze, until Ned Leeds finally woke him up at lunchtime.

"Hey, man, what's wrong with you? This is the first time I've ever seen you space out in class," Ned asked, nudging Peter Parker.

He had been observing Peter all morning, and he looked completely abnormal.

Peter finally came back to his senses. "What's wrong?"

"Oh, never mind. Let's go eat," Ned said, changing the subject.

The two then walked to the cafeteria.

Peter was carrying a tray of food and was about to find a seat with Ned.

Suddenly, he felt something flash through his mind, and he instinctively stepped to the side.

Clang!

"Ow~" Flash Thompson was lying on the ground, his plate of food splattering all over him.

The noise immediately attracted the attention of all the students.

It turned out that Flash had been planning to shoulder-check Peter, but Peter had dodged at the last second.

Flash lost his balance and fell to the floor, spilling the food all over himself.

"Oh~ my God~" Ned gasped in surprise, covering his mouth.

Peter was equally surprised. What just happened?

"F**k!" Flash Thompson pounded the floor in anger, then stood up and pointed a finger at Peter. "Are you trying to pick a fight?"

"Before that, don't you think you should clean yourself up?" Ned suggested, looking at Flash, who was covered in food.

Flash looked down at himself in disgust, glared fiercely at Peter, held his breath, and stormed out the door.

"Peter, that side-step was awesome!" Ned exclaimed excitedly once Flash was gone.

"Um... I don't know," Peter quickly led Ned to a random table and sat down.

He couldn't stand all the people staring at him.

In the Hallway

Peter checked the camera in his locker, then put it back.

Since it was a gift from Silas, he treasured it greatly.

"Peter Parker!" Flash Thompson shouted furiously.

Seeing a raging Flash, Peter quickly closed his locker, startled. "What... what is it?"

"You embarrassed me, didn't you?" Flash threw a punch at Peter.

It was then that Peter realized Flash's fist seemed to be moving in slow motion.

Peter dodged backward, and Flash's fist slammed directly into the locker.

"Ow~" Flash yelled in pain. That locker was made of steel, and punching it was not a pleasant experience.

"Go, Peter!"

"Hit him back!"

"Wow!"

Flash's commotion drew a large crowd, and they instantly became the center of attention.

"Listen to me, Flash," Peter tried to explain.

Flash threw another punch. Peter leaned back and easily dodged it.

Flash threw several more punches, but couldn't even touch Peter.

Just as Flash was confused, Peter executed a backflip kick that caught him right in the jaw, sending him tumbling to the ground.

"Oh~ unbelievable!" the crowd buzzed. They couldn't believe the skinny Peter Parker had beaten Flash Thompson.

"Is that your brother? He's pretty good," Misty commented.

Silas nodded. "Of course, he's just been hiding his strength."

Silas and Misty had been on their way to class when the noise drew them over.

But soon, a teacher arrived.
