Anu;
"You're not a stranger to me," he repeats. "And if you were in danger, I'd come."
I blink again as I process those words and suddenly, something hot presses behind my eyes.
Oh, fuck off. Not now.
I look away quickly and pretend to become incredibly interested in folding the edge of the blanket.
"Well…" I mumble, clearing my throat. "Good. Because I can't run very fast."
Zane doesn't respond, and I battle to keep the emotions out of my voice.
"If the killer has functioning knees, I'm finished," I add. I still get nothing from him.
I glance at him, and find that he's watching me. I hate when he does that.
It's like he can see every thought I'm desperately trying to shove beneath the carpet.
"What?" I demand, and he lets out a breath.
"Nothing."
"Then stop looking at me like that," I complain, and he gives me a look.
"Like what?"
"Like you're analysing me."
"I'm not." He replies, and I scoff.
"You are."
