Chapter 6 - 6

Miss?

Miss?

I felt a splitting pain in my head.

The distant voice came rippling through as I tried to make out where I was.

It was like I was afloat in a void environment– just darkness.

My eyes were painful and heavy as I slowly opened them. It was all blurry.

Where am I ?

Where's Moonie?

Had I lost her? Oh gosh!

"Miss…can you hear us?" A voice spoke. It was the same as before.

"Are you sure she's awake?" Another voice chirped in.

"Keep quiet!"

My vision gradually cleared as I looked around my surroundings.

The bright light in the room shone dangerously at my eyes.

Groaning I sat up – on a bed?

"Are you alright?" I turned to the owner of the voice.

It was a woman in blue jeans and a light purple t-shirt.

She looked like someone around my age or older.

"Where am I…who are you?" Glancing around I realized that Moonie wasn't here with me.

"Where's my cat?" I added.

The lady gave a soft smile.

"Your cat is fine and in good shape, don't worry."

"Okay…" I replied, still unsure of my surroundings.

"I'm Emilia by the way." She introduced herself.

"Argh! Get off me you whimsy cat!!"

A voice screeched accompanied by an aggressive hiss of a cat.

Moonie?

That voice sounded familiar.

The door barged open with an angry man and Moonie clinged to his shirt with her nails.

Ouch that looks painful.

I grimaced.

Moonie quickly jumped on me as she saw me purring gently looking at me with sad eyes, like she hadn't attacked a stranger just now.

"Oh Moonie my sweet baby I missed you so much." I cooed, kissing her head over and over.

"How are you?...I wish I stayed back and maybe avoided this." I added kissing and rubbing her fur as she clinged on my arms.

I missed her so much.

"Miss."

Elaina's voice brought me back to the actual reality.

"Yeah..sorry."

"No problem. This is one of my staff –Alex, who found you unconscious earlier."

She said as she introduced the guy as he waved at me.

He had blonde hair with hazel eyes and looked younger than the lady.

"I just need to find out what actually happened to you. We saw you lying on the floor unconscious in the pet aisle."

She explained.

Did people not see the stranger?

Am I…

"What do you mean?" I asked, my confusion plain.

"One of my staff saw you unconscious on the floor and raised the alarm. We want to know what exactly caused it " she reiterated.

Nobody actually saw me running?...or heard my screams?

"I can't fully remember…but I saw a strange guy in all black clothing." I paused. "Next thing I knew, I was running and screaming for help but nobody came to my rescue." I finished with a slight tremble in my voice.

I sounded pretty vague and slightly confused but I know she got my point.

Nodding, she stood with her phone in hand dialing a number and speaking with the person in the other line, and left the room.

I just stayed still staring into nothing.

"Are you okay?"

The guy from earlier asked – Alex.

"Yeah I'm fine."

Not really in the mood to talk, I gave him a short reply.

And I think he got the idea and kept quiet.

Rude of me? Yes.

But I can't really help it right now as I'm filled with so much uneasiness, and I feel bad.

I just held Moonie close to me as I felt my muscles weak and drained of its energy.

I don't know how many minutes went by, Emilia walked back in with some stuff in hand.

"We are really sorry for the inconvenience you had, please accept this as our apology." She said, handing me a package.

Inside it were the items I'd picked out earlier with some extra pet stuff in it.

"I'm really grateful for all this. Thank you." I showed my gratitude by holding her hand softly.

She just gave a warm smile, "No problem."

"

"Now you need to start heading home, it's getting late."

Oh!

I totally forgot about time.

" You can come back and lay a complaint tomorrow, the police will be here." She paused, stared at me intently and continued. "This cannot be a normal incident, maybe a failed attack or someone scaring you."

I haven't actually thought of this.

Who would do such a thing?

I have no enemies here.

"Please don't bother yourself much. Come tomorrow morning and we'll see what the police might say." She cut through my internal battle.

"Thank you once again." I said and left the building.

**

Reaching my apartment, I felt so relieved and safe.

I slumped my body on the couch as Moonie climbed down heading straight to the kitchen.

Finally,

I just need a hit shower at this point.

I lazily dragged myself up groaning.

I had the longest shower and dressed in simple PJs.

As I was about to sleep, Moonie came strutting in and jumped on my duvet curling her body.

She must have been really tired.

Emilia was such a nice woman, although I came home pretty late I still don't regret meeting her.

Tomorrow I'll go back there to see if they have any update.

"Goodnight Moonie."

I whispered.

But sleep had nothing on me.

I kept my gaze on the ceiling as my mind kept on replaying today's incident.

Why did no one see me running?

Or screaming for that matter.

I know for sure how loud my voice can be and I'm still confused on how nobody actually saw anything but my unconscious body.

Making my way to the kitchen, I poured myself a cup of warm milk and gulped it down with two sleeping pills.

This would help at least.

I can't get insomnia from this new profound confusion.

Heading by to my room, I laid upwards on my bed waiting till the pills finally kicked it.

The comfort and peaceful unconsciousness engulfing me in its embrace.
